A rebel list for critique

By Izza, in X-Wing

hey guys.

I've been lurking on here for a long time but only posted once or twice.

There's a decent sized tournament coming up in Nov in my area, and I'd like to rock along to have some fun. I haven't had a chance to play X-Wing very much in the last year, so I'm pretty rusty, but any opportunity to play gets me excited.

Anyway, here's the list I'm looking at, once Rebel Aces arrives.

Jake Farrell (26)
A-Wing Test Pilot (0), Chardaan Refit (-2), Outmaneuver (3), Veteran Instincts (1)
Green Squadron Pilot (20)
Chardaan Refit (-2), Push the Limit (3)
Keyan Farlander (32)
Advanced Sensors (3)
Blue Squadron Pilot (22)
Any thoughts and feedback would be appreciated. :-D

Honestly I would swap the advanced sensors on farlander for outmaneuveron the green pilot. Then fly them as two separate wings, the B's together and the A's together. I want to try this list myself when I finally get my hands on aces.

I would actually swap the Sensors on Farlander for Push the Limit, or something else you can use to stress him. I don't like relying upon just the red maneuvers to use his ability, and doing something like barrel roll, PtL into target lock, and then hit the guy whose arc you just dodged with a Stress!Focus/Target Lock attack sounds awfully fun.

Ok Dr4co's idea is way better. Go with ptl on farlander for sure.

Interesting.

I went with advanced sensors on Farlander so he could still target lock or barrel roll and get stressed.

BUT with PtL I can still do that and get stressed, nice.

List had 1pt left over, that's why I went with VI on Jake. Could shunt that too Green, or drop for a shot at Initiative

PTL much better.

You actually made a great call on the VI for Jake. You need something that can compete with a Phantom. Sadly, I don't think Jake is going to put out enough firepower to do so. Interestingly enough, if we consider that Jake is meant to try and attack Phantoms, try and get the initiative and practice getting that Phantom into either Jake or Keyan's arc. These are the only two that can actually deal meaningful damage at all to it.

Jake Farrell (24)
Outmaneuver (3)
Veteran Instincts (1)
A-Wing Test Pilot (0)
Keyan Farlander (29)
Push the Limit (3)
Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
Nera Dantels (26)
Deadeye (1)
Fire-Control System (2)
Flechette Torpedoes (2)
Flechette Torpedoes (2)
Total: 100
This is the list I would play. See here: the problem with having the 4 ship basic A and B is that they don't do you that much good against something that isn't a swarm. Your list has a hard time dealing with Phantoms unless you've practiced and fly well.
This list should do better: Jake can seek the Phantom. Nera can stress the Phantom, and gains TLs automatically from TL. You can do a primary first attack on a ship and then fly around it and 360 flechette torp it!
Keyan HLC gives you more damage output vs Ties and Falcons. Jake's Outmaneuver reduces C3POs usage. Nera here should just help putting pressure on it.
Or on second thought. Maybe having another ship might help:
Prototype Pilot (17)
Chardaan Refit (-2)
Keyan Farlander (29)
Push the Limit (3)
Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
Nera Dantels (26)
Deadeye (1)
Flechette Torpedoes (2)
Flechette Torpedoes (2)
Prototype Pilot (17)
Chardaan Refit (-2)
Total: 100
Same decent problem solving. Nera should single handedly gimp the Phantom.
Your main problem might be Falcons. But hopefully 4 ships, and 11 attack dice should help. HLC is great too.
You should be golden vs tie swarm.

Thanks. I've always been draw towards 4 ship rebel builds, but with imperials going for more elite lists, I guess 3 is an option.

Gotta have an A-Wing in there somewhere thou. :-)

Here's something silly I've been messing with for a 3 ship build

Jake Farrell (29)

A-Wing Test Pilot (0), Chardaan Refit (-2), Outmaneuver (3), Veteran Instincts (1)

Wedge Antilles (37)

R3-A2 (2), Expert Handling (2), Shield Upgrade (4)

Nera Dantels (34)

Advanced Sensors (3), Flechette Torpedo (2), Flechette Torpedo (2), Veteran Instincts (1)
