So we have Video Games, and books, now lets go to authors/writers.
I like Aaron Allston, and Troy Denning.

Obvious answer is Timothy Zahn.
Star Wars wouldn't be what it is, today, without him. (Well, okay, what it was yesterday, before Disney..."altered the deal")

Well, to be honest, Star Wars wouldn't have been in a position to have its "agreement altered" by Disney if it wasn't for Zahn. Zahn, Stackpole, Allston, and Luceno are the favs here.
Stackpole for me - just started re-reading Rogue squadron
Timothy Zahn, for sure.
You probably haven't heard of him, but this bloke called George something...Lucas, yeah that's it!
He wrote this amazing Expanded Universe story called Attack Of The Clones, the romance sub-plot was a real tear-jerker - he really understands the human heart and has a knack for genuine dialogue.
Of course, now the Disney has shelved the EU to the Legends category, it's no longer Canon. But worth a look anyway.
Alan Dean Foster, Splinter of the Mind's Eye.
Micheal A. Stackpole for sure!
I'll also be that guy: Karen Traviss. I love the Mandalorian culture, and I cannot thank her enough for 'True Colours'
Timothy Zahn
What is wrong with you? Star Wars BOOKS? Even George R.R. Martins science fiction is better than that. If you like space opera: E.E. Smith, C.J. Cherryh. Then Philip K. **** (Blade Runner was based on a book of him), Larry Niven, Robert Sheckley, Stanislaw Lem, the brothers Strugatski, Clifford Simak, Ray Bradbury.
The author is Philip K. D_ I_C_ K. That is his real name. Some stupid moderator robot changed it into asterisks. I mean how Disney can you get in a forum. Sick minds everywhere.
Edited by RumarTimothy Zahn for books, I haven't read Rogue Squadron but its on my list. John Ostrander (for comics) because of the Legacy comic.
Timothy Zahn, for sure.
of course but I'm not sure Xwing is what it is without Stackpole... He's probably named half of the pilots.

No no no, what's wrong with you? EU is the only thing that makes Star Wars truly amazing, the movies are fun action movies, but they aren't really amazing.
if its the same Stackpole his battle tech books were dire so i hope his xwing stuff was less hackneyed
The long and the short of Stackpole:
OMG GOD AWFUL DIALOGUE!!! Oh wait, we're in an xwing now... everything's k.
Timothy Zahn, no question. He is just about the perfect Star Wars writer.
To answer you Gadge, Stackpole's X-wing books are pretty good, they are more of a have fun action/adventure thing than super serious crap gets real stories, but are good and fun. I guarantee you Allston books were better although Rogues are cooler than Wraiths.
Fair enough, i was just put off him by his BT books. I love BT and his idea of the inner sphere and mine were miles apart...

Dialogue in wraiths isn't half bad.
Zahn, but admittedly never read Salvatore's SW or Stackpole.
Honestly my one complaint about him is lack of Character development of the more obscure pilots. Riv Shiel is listed as a main character for the whole series yet I recall about 3-4 lines he actually had (by whole series, I mean the first 4 books). Same goes for Aril Numb, Rhysati (although she was somewhat prominent in the 1st book), Gavin and Bror Jace. (Gavin gets a lot of character development later on, but is one of the Wedge of the movies type characters, where you're like, ok cool that guy, but not much real character development.)
Wraiths are Allston, not Stackpole.
Kevin J Anderson
Simply because he gave me the term "blobstacle course" and it amuses me for some reason. I could pass on the rest of his stuff.
Matt Stover is my favorite.
I really like his take on some of the more grey areas of the Star Wars universe.
