Looking for players in DFW area.

By Kyla, in X-Wing Organized Play

I know there are a few games stores in the area, but I don't know when they run events

Ok, the one I'm most familiar with is Madness Games in Plano. The league there meets every Friday, from 5pm to Midnight. We have about 20-25 players on average. It's a free league, with participation prizes, and it's open play, so just show up when you like for as long as you like, and record your games. A smaller set of players shows up every Tuesday from 5pm to 9pm. No league, just players looking for a bit of gaming.

I know there are a bunch of other ones too but I don't have the full details. I'll post them as I find them.

In Lewisville, Boomerang Comics has an X-Wing night on Wednesdays from 6-9pm. That's where I normally play since it's just a block or two from where I live. There's league play currently and plans for a tournament (which will probably fall on a Saturday.) We generally get 6-10 players and it's very new player friendly. The shop is mid-size, very nice, and the staff is great.

I stumbled across a listing somewhere that I haven't been able to find again that said there was another shop in Lewisville, in the shopping center next to the high school, that had X-Wing on Sunday afternoons. I stopped by once and there was just a table of four playing D&D.

In Bedford, Generation X has X-Wing open play on Saturdays. I think it's supposed to be 10am-6pm. I went over there just this last weekend around 1pm but no one was playing. I asked around and it seems they were doing a MtG tournament that day and it killed the normal X-Wing play. I'll go back again, but for now I can't really speak on what it's like there. They did have a big play area with a lot of tables and the shop itself is nice.

I haven't been to Madness in Plano, but only because I have prior Friday night commitments. I might stop by on a Tuesday to see what it's like.

Area 51 in Grapevine usually has miniatures gaming events going on, but their website seems really out of date and I haven't been to the shop itself in a couple of years. No idea if they do X-Wing, but I might swing by there this weekend and see in person.

We have a little group that plays casually on Tuesday nights and we run a tournament a month, usually on the last Saturday. We're at 9062 Teasley Lane in Denton.

Adding what others have mentioned and what I've learned since, we have...

Tuesday ?-? (evening), Madness Comics, Plano (non-league night)

Tuesday 5-9, Reaper Game Store, Denton

Wednesday 6-9, Boomerang Comics, Lewisville

Thursday 7-10, Area 51, Grapevine

Friday 5-12, Madness Comics, Plano (league night)

Saturday 10-6, Generation X, Bedford

And sometimes...

Last Saturday of the month ?-?, Reaper Game Store, Denton

Swung by Area 51 tonight (Thursday). I showed up at 6 and found out that X-Wing is scheduled for 7-10. So, I killed time and got some dinner. Came back a little after 7. While there were about 15-20 people there, no one was playing X-Wing. I asked an employee and was told they usually have 2-3 games of X-Wing. I'll try again another Thursday, but I was really hoping to find something a little more reliable and regular.

Wow.

I went to Madness in Plano for the first time. This store is incredible. It's the biggest gaming/comic shop I've ever been in. I could lose half a day just browsing. There were more tables than I could count without actual effort. I'd estimate 25+ in the primary area, another 10+ in the secondary area, and another 5 or 6 in a third area.

In the secondary area, there were five or six tables set up for X-Wing (each able to comfortably run two games at a time.) I met and played SableGryphon. (*cough* namedrop *cough*). I got in four games that evening with four different people and had a blast. Boomerang is my home base and I'll keep playing there as long as they have X-Wing going, but I'd like to make it to Madness as often as possible. It's a bit of a trip (and will normally hit ugly rush hour traffic for me), but well worth it from what I saw.

If you are near the Plano area and looking to play, you can't do better than this.

well the group at Area 51 was there. We were just playing Malifaux. There are about 4-6 of us that literally show up every week. Since the same 4-6 of us played each other every week with no new faces, we decided to try a new game. If you want to try again next week, I'll certainly get a game in with you (I'm the guy with the spiked hat).

But yeah, if you're looking for sheer volume--> Madness.

I want other places to get some volume but, they don't stay open late or there is no community. I really don't mind going to Madness, but LBJ Freeway can die in a ****ing fire!

Wow...I'm moving to Irving soon. Looks like I'll be spoilt for choices....IF I WANT TO DRIVE 30 MILES IN ANY DIRECTION! :P

Gen X isn't far. I used to play 40k there back in the day. Definatly a destination though and not just down the street.

If you're moving to North Irving, Boomerang isn't too far. It's in South Lewisville, so you just need to hop through Coppell. It's really just how much Irving you have to get through first, especially if you're starting south of 183.

You have lots of choices, though yes they are a bit of a drive. You should come by Madness at least once. :)

I'll be most likely working in Downtown Dallas.

I'll be living on the Irving/Grand Prairie border near Rock Island and Beltline.

I'm sure I'll be all over the place. I'll need a serious home so Plano sounds good even if far. Close enough to hit tournaments anyway.

Cannot wait. Virginia is like living in a dirty toilet. F___ this place.

Madness in Plano was awesome. I visited last Friday with my son and everyone was nice even to the 10 year old. Very impressive. I'll be actually bringing my ships next time I visit. Be nice though I'm still very new.

I will be as nice as I can be.

Hint: I'm not a nice person. :)

I'm glad you had a good time. It was nice to chat with you.

No. No, you are not a nice person with your dancing Dash and your decimators.

That being said, it's nearly an hour drive for me (depending on traffic), but I still get up to Madness every time I can. Living in southern DFW makes it tough, but the community up there is outstanding and really helps put my flying through the meat grinder. This evil man right here has been the biggest challenge, and I've probably learned more playing against him than against everyone else combined.

Things have been shaping up nicely considering my move. Looks like ill be back in the area sometime in december. Posibly settled and ready to play in January is pretty much the plan.

Saw Madness today after a session of testing for my new job. REALLY nice store.

I look forward to meeting some of you guys soon.
