Which of These Lists to Get Me Started?

By ClydeOberholt, in X-Wing

Hey lot, I'm just getting into the game and I'm working on building my first list/fleet (flist?). I've compiled the following lists using the ships I'm likely to pick up tomorrow and was wondering if you chaps would be so kind as to provide some insight into which one might be most effective and advise me of any necessary changes.

List 1 - Focus Fun!

List 2 - Where'd You Go?

Please do feel free to suggest any other lists you think might be both fun and competitive. Keep in mind, however, that I can't use either the YT-1300 or Tie Interceptor (Though I could if it were Imperial Aces) as they're sold out everywhere here in Toronto.

Thanks aplenty!

Either will work. Once you use them you'll learn what might be worth doing different.

3 ship Rebel builds and 4 ship Imperial builds are a little low. Especially a naked Bounty Hunter. Try using Academy ties and freeing up a few points to upgrade that Firespray.

I like number 2 with two Academies, then Rec Spec on the BH. This frees up an initiative bid at 99 points.

I am a bit more fond of the whisper build myself. The rebel build looks a bit fun too though.

Bump. Any more advice?

I agree with #2 but with Academies and Recon Specialist on the BH.

Definitely the Whisper one is MUCH better. like. MUCH better. Drop the two Blacks to APs, give Whisper Rebel Captive. It is REQUIRED. Lists without Rebel Captive or Gunner receive failing grades. Just kidding. But seriously. Take Rebel Captive. You won't regret it at all. Save that last point if you want for initiative versus other Phantoms/PS9s. Or you can take one AP up to an Obsidian for PS3, but I feel like having the initiative at PS9 will help you more than one random tie fighter up 2 PS points.

The upside to the PS3 tie is it will move with the Firespray in timing and its immune to the two dice from predator.

Up to you which you fear more.

The people saying Recon Spec on the BH is also a good choice, but I feel like Rebel Captive will allow you to win the games you otherwise will have lost. Only Whisper needs to survive, the rest of your team is just cannon fodder. If he's left with anything at all, I'd rather have Whisper as my last ship and fly well, versus having the BH and having no shot on occasion.

Edit edit: Actually what I would really do is this:

Whisper VI Rebel Captive ACD

AP

AP

BH with Tactician

The reasoning is this: FCS makes you have to target the same ship for its effectiveness to be used. That makes you predictable.

Tactician works in both of the Firespray's arcs and is very cost efficient. Also the chance of stacking two stresses via Rebel Captive and Tactician is great.

Rebel Captive highly increases the power of your Whisper, as being shot at will mean that that ship will not be able to engage Whisper again. This gives a lot more room to maneuver.

Into the late game, if you do happen to find yourself with the BH left.... It means you really need to practice your flying (unless you were up against Fat Han, in which case, its more possible). But for most end game matchups, the BH with tactician is not a bad choice.

#2.

But only because I fly Imperials.

Consider that list with some of the aformentioned suggestions stolen, I mean borrowed. :D
