I guess I've just never been comfortable with the notion of spending a token to do nothing other than the act of spending the token. I still think there should be something to spend a token on. And spending it to reroll no dice, or change results that you don't actually have, seems a bit cheesy.
It's one of the little things in this game that just doesn't sit well for me.
What's the census here on Farlander ability?
Farlander does still lose his ability to take other actions, so he does still face some of the costs of the stress.
And that can also be circumvented with advanced sensors. B-Wings are not precisely weak ships, having both 'crew' and 'systems' slots.
Philosophy and what the rule is don't need to match. Ruleswise you can ditch the token. Debating what you think is cheesy should go somewhere it won't confuse people.I guess I've just never been comfortable with the notion of spending a token to do nothing other than the act of spending the token. I'm not sure where I might be confusing people, and I'm not debating the issue either. I merely stated a personal opinion. I can live with it, and I can play by it.
No more spending tokens to alter zero dice. I don't think it would break the game at all, but it would make for some significant changes in play.
I'm not really sure it would have any impact at all, honestly. I may be missing some cases, but (excluding the unreleased Farlander) Garven and Hobbie are the two cases I can think of where spending a token for no direct gain can have a secondary benefit. Neither is exactly a staple of competitive play, although both are certainly average enough to see some use.
If they did change it I think we'd see a lot of screaming and overreacting about how Garven was useless now, almost all by people who never actually fly him, but I don't think it would have any real broad impact on the game.
I have always played by spending focus tokens on "all focus" icons, not Zero Focus icons. In my head, Zero is Zero Focus Results, Zero Focus results do not equal a Focus result. Zero is just that Zero, There are no results to change. Spending/focusing on Zero should equal Zero or no change to the status quo. I will play this way until there is a FAQ or Errata to say otherwise.

It's been in the FAQ for awhile now. It was one of the first questions asked when the game first came out and as such one of the first questions answered.

Thanks. I haven't played for a while. I will need to play and practice more and keep up with things more often. I now have all the updated faqs on all my pc and pads, will keep them up to date from now on.
