Welcome to the End of the World!

By Pipes, in Zombie Apocalypse

Welcome to the forums for The End of the World series! Here, you can discuss any and every aspect of these roleplaying games. Want to compare zombie-hunting strategies? Maybe you'd prefer to swap stories of hiding from Cthulhu.

Prepare for the apocalypse!

Two big questions: Is it easy to NOT play as yourselves, as it is with most TTRPGs? Also, can you give hints on the system?

looking awesome!

Could be the best system for a first try into p&p rpgs with my friends. Killing my friends zombie-mom could be lead to REAL discusions with a bloody end :D

release date?

playable with 2 people or do you need a lot more?
will it come in german (when)?

when will the different books come? all at once or one per year?

is it adapted to USA kind of life? In USA there are many weapons available to kill monsters, zombies and aliens, but for example here in Germany you could be lucky if you find a sharp knife

You can always play as if the ZA hit during you Holiday in the US.

Did you know Germany is the number one manufacturer of high quality knifes in the world?

The concept of playing as oneself has always intrigued me. If players are drawing up realistic stats for themselves, given that gamers tend to be less athletic and more intellectual, you're likely going to end up with a somewhat skewed party composition. Only rarely will you have a hulking tank PC who can break the zombies' necks with his bare hands.

Two of the players in my group are extremely athletic... The others not so much. Hahahaha

Wasn't sure by the description as to the system of the game, will be interested to hear that.

Also if there will be more than 4 books I really hope there's a Nuclear Apocalypse one, as I enjoy adapting things to Fallout esque settings.

It might be something they sprinkle into each of the books: You nuked the zombies... now what? You nuked Cthulhu... that pissed him off. You nuked the aliens... target remains.

The machines nuked you.

O M Freakin' G!!! I want those books now, and is Cthulhu going to be part of the Wrath of God or Alien invasion. Bwahhahahahaha

Okay i wasn't sold on the zombie one because a) to much zombies and b) Outbreak Undead, but seeing it's a whole series i'm intrested. The titles and covers made me think of those old "choose-your-own-adventure" books.

The art has nome nice B-movie feel to it.

If the systhem is good people will probably buy all (or most) of them. You survived the zombie apocalypse, but can you survive an alien invasion?

You may join a secret resistance battling an alien race that has enslaved humanity, or you may huddle in underground shelters beneath a toxic wasteland after the world’s governments used nuclear warheads to exterminate the zombie plague.

It seems that you can do that with the zombie book, (just erase the zombie part) but i wonder how detailed they will make it.

How about The End of the World: Exterminatus: where you suddenly find yourself trasported to teh setting of warhammer 40.000.

Can you survive in the grimdark future?

That would be hilarious tough.

Mechanicus Enginseer : " He switched on the cogitator without saying the prayer of awakening! KILL HIM!"

to exterminate the zombie plague.

Exactly why I hope for a full game about Nuclear apocalypse and not on hiding in a fallout shelter after a zombie apocaplyse. I mean ghouls aren't zombies ya bigot radioactive or not. (That's a Fallout the game series joke it's made in joke)

I just hope the "You play yourselves playing an RPG and...ZOMBIES/DEMONS/ROBOTS/ALIENS STRIKE!" isn't required. Otherwise, I am SO interested! I REEEEEEAAAALY hope it uses the same system as Star Wars, or a close variant!

Wait...why not have aliens fighting Great Old Ones with robots and there are zombies?! We get caught in the mix...ouch!

I think they're only allowed to do so much with the liscense.

I also hope that there is legitimate character creation, I mean I don't see why it can't be adapted. After all creating yourself and a different person is just putting yourself in the right space of mind.

Apparently this line is a translation of a game made in Spain. Didn't knew it existed (since I'm living in this side of the Atlantic and I don't follow the stuff made in Spanish as close as I should).

There is a review (in Spanish) of the game here: http://roachroom.com/2013/10/el-fin-del-mundo-hecatombe-agridulce/

Wow. I'd have never know.

Also, on creating yourself, I could see some issues. I sure as heck they add in a "Be honest but not too honest" rule, so someone who thinks they have great (extremely controversial) government ideas doesn't make himself an ace politician, but at the same time us nerds don't point out just how non-athletic we are. Because honestly, I'd hate having to play a character who can't run for a minute to save his life (because in a game where I'll actually need to run for over a minute to save my life, I'd be screwed over in ten seconds flat).

Depending on the apocalypse you may rarely need to actually run.

Let's take zombies for example, depending on the zombies you may not need to worry about outrunning, simply staying ahead. The issue being that zombies don't stop moving, and unless you have a base or a car you do.

If the system allows for the creation of the mechanic behind the apocalypse I plan on making a zombie similar to those in the Zombie Survival Guide.

How about radioactive zombies?

I mean, that's the only answer to nuking zombies right?

Apparently once you create yourself the other players vote and have a degree of power to veto the character.

Thermobaric weapons also work fine, well except for the odd zombie who survived the blast and now has his lungs dangling out of his mouth.

I have a bad feeling i'll end up on "team zombie" very quickly. Then again maybe beeing a zombie isn't so bad. No fear, no pain, you get to eat all the red meat that you want, you still like fireworks and if you're lucky milla jovovich will break your neck between her thighs.
