Developing list: "terrible twos"

It's an awful name, but alludes to the ships all only having two attack, plus I really want to use vader, just to say I did.

Darth vader, outmaneuver, engine upgrade

Howlrunner, predator, shield upgrade

Dark curse, hull upgrade

Nightbeast, hull upgrade.

Vader becomes a interceptor, and the ties do tie stuff.

I pretty much always take Backstabber over Dark Curse. Other than that, it looks fun enough.

I don't find Howlrunner useful with lists less than 6 members. Mauler would perform better (do more damage overall) for you.

I also think an additional Academy/Obsidian TIE is worth more than Hull and shield upgrades. It gives you the same amount of HP but also gives you two more guns which this list needs since it currently only has 8 attack dice.

I like the look of this list. That Vader should be solid and it's always fun to play him with Black Squadron. That said, the list looks a little bit fragile.

You're probably better off dropping the upgades from the TIEs and adding an extra Academy Pilot.

This lets Howl's ability get that much more use (replacing Predator), gives you the same number of extra health (three), two extra attack die, and blocking potential.

Running Vader as a flanker while the mini-swarm advances is a good move, but three ties isn't really enough teeth to threaten most opponents. I run a similar list called "Fel's Flying Circus" that brings Night Beast, Dark Curse, Backstabber, and Mauler Mithel alongside a fully souped up Soontir Fel. If they chase Fel, four ties (especially with Backstabber/Mithel or your Howlrunner) can chew a fleet up a lot faster than three. I also like being able to sacrifice one (usually Dark Curse) if needed to trip up their maneuvering.

That's a legitimate concern. However, I despise academy ties and I'm most comfortable in the 3-4 ship range.

See I also just came off a really good streak of interceptor flying so I'm trying to handicap myself a little.

I'm not expecting to gun down every list in sight, but to be way more of a challenge than anticipated. Also, getting used to the advanced pre-whatever FFG has coming.

If you want 3-4 ships, I would recommend the following:

Mauler Mithel, predator, shield upgrade

Dark curse, hull upgrade

Backstabber, hull upgrade.

I really like Backstabber, it almost forces your opponent to let Vader flank him. And if he doesn't Vader can turtle and let the 3 TIEs do their thing (kill stuff). It hurts taking out Nightbeast, I like that guy and he does not get enough flight time.

hmm now I need to come up with a list that features Nightbeast with Engine Upgrade or Targeting Computer.

I agree with Jobu. If you won't add more ships, you still need to add attack die and this should help. I'd actually probably take Night Beast over Dark Curse, but it's a fairly minor change. I'd also consider dropping a Hull Upgrade on someone to put Proton Rockets on Vader once they're available. This list just needs teeth more than one extra HP.

Vader with that setup is really quite deadly. Your opponent will probably try to focus on him first so I would go defensive with him until you can BR/boost behind them and then start picking them off. I have to second the Backstabber addition. He is easily the deadliest Tie fighter and for 16 points he is a steal. I love nightbeast so I love to get him in there since he can be hard to kill. I would consider a couple black ties maybe one with predator and one with draw their fire to keep some heat off one of the more important ships.

Seems to me that if you ever run into a turret list you will ave big problems. You are short on firepower against falcons and you are short on PS to go against high PS lists and Phantoms. Looks like a list I'd use for a casual game, but tournaments are a bridge too far for this list.
