Measuring/Timing with Captain Yorr & Etahn

By DR4CO, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I think I know the answers to these questions already, but just to be sure: let's say that I have a ship that's about to stress itself with something like Push the Limit, and I want Yorr to receive the token. However, I'm not entirely sure Yorr is within range and I don't want to PtL if he is unable to take the token. Can I check if he's in range before comitting to the PtL? My initial thought is no, because his ability doesn't activate until I do.

Similar idea with Etahn: when do you check his ability? His ability's "activation clause" reads "When an enemy ship inside your firing arc at Range 1-3 is defending", which I'm assuming means that you can check Etahn's range and arc as soon as your other ship declares a target, but not before, so you can't check which targets Etahn can affect before picking yours.

I'd say you are correct on both points. You are alowed to measure only when required to.

Before triggering Yorr you can not measure distance to him. Same with Ethan, the selection of the target is the trigger for his ability and only when that happens can you meassure to see if his conditions are meet.

I would agree in both cases.

As above, correct on both counts.

Measure when you need to measure for the ability, no other time.
