Overlord cards between encounters

I've just been reading some guides and people are talking about saving cards for encounter 2 (of a 2 part quest).

Is this right?

I've been using a new deck (admittedly the same one) as we start the second part of an encounter.

Am I supposed to use only 15 cards for the 2 encounters?

Thanks in advance.

When you finish encounter 1, the hand of cards you end the encounter with is the hand you start encounter 2 with, with the same discard pile etc. In other words, don't modify the deck or your hand between encounters, only between quests.

well, you do get to reshuffle the discards to form a new draw deck when you run out, but yes, you use the same deck across both encounters. Like Whitewing said, you keep your hand and discard pile across the encounter gap.

Since there is no hand size limit for the OL, saving cards in hand during E1 is a popular strategy, especially if it's an E1 that's weighted against the OL by scenario rules. That way, you start with a big hand of cards at the beginning of E2 and you can begin pummeling the heroes right out of the gates.

I find as the OL it is important to win E1 .. for example one time I went all in and managed to successfully steal all 4 crops on a Fat Goblin in a 4 hero campaign. Killing Splig was not even an option after that... they were just scrounging everything they could to get stun and immobilize effects. They failed :)

But what happens for Enchanter Cards that affect a certain monster group and remain in play during Encounter 1? Are they automatically discarded or if you keep using that group in Encounter 2 they remain in play?

Or do you chose to automatically affect a new monster (open on not) group?

From the Manor of Ravens rulebook, page 4 (overlord card section):

...Many of the new Overlord cards instruct that they remain in play after being used.
When the overlord plays an Overlord card that remains on a monster group, he keeps
the card faceup in his play area, near the affected group. The overlord does not discard
this card until the end of the encounter or until the card instructs him to discard it...

That section clearly states that cards get discarded at the end of an encounter. It wouldn't matter which monster groups you're using in encounter 2.
