Advice on Format

By MarkRM, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hey guys. This question's not a straight rules clarification, but I was unsure where to post it.

I was hoping someone might be able to give me some advice. I've recently got into X-Wing and played a bunch of hundred point games. This weekend though, after shelling out the cash for a second core set and every expansion, I'm going away with 5 other friends with the intention of playing a big game with all six of us.

My thinking is that we'll do an Epic game with 300 points, with three a side. So ships will be split as evenly as possible between the three players.

It's a pretty informal way to do it, but I just wanted to get the advice on people who know the game better than me. Is this the way you'd play a big game with this many people (most of who haven't played the game before)? Will it work ok, and if not, would you be able to suggest what you think might be the most fun way to play a casual 'widescreen' game with three a side?

Thanks!

I haven't tried the format you're setting out, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Another option may be a "Furball" or a basic free-for-all. No sides, and it's every player for themselves. Often a good cap is 35-points per ship (including all upgrades). As someone gets blown up, they can come back in the next turn with a new ship. We've run that a our local game con for hours on end with the action never stopping.

???

Slugrage has a good format. With most of your group being new players, each player starting off with a 30 point limit for their ship will leave them with one ship, and maybe a couple of upgrade cards to remember and learn.

Give each player 3 deaths and have every player track the ships that they got the killing blow on. Once one person is fully eliminated, tally up all the killing blows that each player has and the player with the highest tally is the overall winner.

More players means more ships to maneuver so the game will go longer than 60 mins, just something to be aware of.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the advice!
