Where are the Miraluka?

By Xigmus, in General Discussion

I was just curious. They are probably one of my favorite races and I think they would fit very well into this corebook since almost all miraluka become Jedi because they can only see using the force.

Maybe in an add-on. The theme for the core book seems to be Jedi council species

Probably because they are a contentious race in regards to ability. Some think that because they see through force they should have a racial ability of either an initial Force rating or to start with the FSEx unispec. Sometimes with the inclusion of the Force power Sense. Others think it should be more basic with maybe just an ability tied around their Force sight. I lean to the latter myse. I think tying them to close the Force with a rating or spec makes them too much of a goto race for Force use. I'm sure we'll see FFG's version in one of the many supplements for F&d once the CRB is out.

Later if at all. They are popular enough to get away with, but as the game is currently set in the classic trilogy era, so not really many of them running around.

I think them starting with a Force rating of 1 would work out great. Here is why. Picking up a Force Using class wouldn't alter that. They wont start with a FR 2 if they take a F&D Career. The precedent for FR1 seems to be a single Class Skill reduction. As most species start with a Skill for free, Miraluka wouldn't be overpowered by this (in fact, they would technically be hindered, as they would be missing out on a skill automatically and get no benefit if they were to take a F&D career. On the upside, they could take an EotE Career or AoR Career and then grab specializations from F&D without having to take Exile or Emergent!

For my game our player who wanted to play a miraluka just made a normal human. To handle her force sight I just described things differently. For instance when she seceded on a perception check over an NPC's bluff, she saw a shift in the force around him so she could tell he was lying.

Good descriptions go rather far with this system.

If they did start with FR1, why would I want to be a character of this race as anything but a Force user? In fact why would I take a Force career that would give me something I already have. A bonus to Discipline would have more utility or something similar. And/or a Force sight ability. Giving the race a Force rating or Force spec pigeon - holes it too much in my opinion.

The same could be said for every species (Corellian Human, I'm looking at you). Species need crunch. General Rahm Kota was an example of a blinded character that used the Force to see. In the last game I was in, the Jedi was blinded. He asked the GM if he could commit a Force Die to Sense in order to "see" again. The GM was cool with it. I liked this.

Here is the best statup I have seen.

LibrariaNPC

Human Statline (all 2)

All Miraluka are Force Sensitive and have a Force Rating of 1

All Miraluka gain the Sense Power.

Force Sight: Miraluka see through the Force. They are immune to effects that would physically blind them, and can for all intents and purposes "see." If thier connection with the Force is removed, they are blind.

Bonus Skill: Miraluka are given a free rank in Discipline. It cannot be raised above 2 at character creation.

80 XP

This is exactly what I would do.

I believe that Sam Stewart said on the Order 66 podcast that they were all in the prequels as Jedi, except for Maul of course. So, yeah, probably all on the council - though was there a Twi'lek on the council?

Except that species overall don't have "Crunch". They provide minor modifications and little else. The real crunch comes from the specs you stack which allows access to career skills and talents.

Aren't they all dead by this era?

I'm sticking with that, no Miraluka in my games...

So now you are a GM? And you do own the books?

Your story did change quite a bit over the past few days...

I just assume they will put them in a splat book later. Can't put all the popular races out right at the start. That said I think the Mirialukin are kind of a cheesy safe. Don't much care for them myself. I know others do though.

I want to play as one. I have always loved them.

No? Why is this such a persistant myth?

From what I remember, it's because Nihilus annihilated the planet they'd lived on to kill what remained of the Jedi, exterminating all but a handful who were wandering the galaxy.

I figured that was the culprit. But that's like assuming humanity got wiped out because Alderaan got blown up. They had other planets, they've shown up past that point in the timeline

Also I don't care much for the EU... so...

There was a legends example of a Miraluka who served in the Jedi Archives under Jedi Master Jocasta Nu.

I would expect to see the Miraluka (if at all) as an added species in the Consular splat book - I've always seen them as quintessential Consulars. It's very possible we won't see them at all, though.

Quite possible, or they would be a persecuted race in the Empire due to their innate force sensitivity, which makes them prime candidate for jedi or sith/inquisition training.

As for them being all dead, that's myth. Katarr was one of the colonies, their original planet is Alpheridies, which was never harmed. It also had a jedi specilisation academy for consulars and seers, according to the Jedi Path book.

The one in your Party in KOTOR 2 is also often referred to as "the last of her people"...

I believe that was probably the intent of the writers, but it was a poor idea with Miraluka such as Jerec existing later on.

Unless the point of Visas was that she is responsible for rebuilding the species afterward. That certainly fits with the themes of the game.

She must have. There were plenty of miraluka, even those that were NPCs in SW:TOR.
