Bomb template protrusions?

By dotswarlock, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Here is an interesting case that happened this weekend:

My bomber dropped a proton bomb, moved, but bumbed another ship. When the bomb went off, we measured whether it was at range 1 or not, and while measuring, we were barely grazing one of the bomb protrusions meant to set the template into place. Do those protrusions count as part of the template (and therefore part of the bomb)?

In the same field, imagine two fighters facing off and being perfectly parallel. Do the protrusions from the base count when determining the range or not? Sometimes, a hair is all that separates the life and death a ship, so I just want to get a correct ruling here :)

(In the game that we played, we did not know whether the bomb protrusions counted, so we rolled a dice to see if I'd get hit or not)

For Bombs, Yes, they count.

If a ship is at range 1 of the protrusion, it takes a face-up damage card.

However, protrusions from ship's base DO NOT count to determine range to another ship.

Don't ask me Why :)

I'm sure it's in the FAQ that they are counted as part of the template so count as a hit

The bomb template guides count for hits. The ship guides don't count for range measurement, but do count for overlaps. Go figure!

Huh, well that's good to know! Thanks for the quick answer everyone! Now I just have to learn not to bomb my own bomber anymore, hehe! :P

Another quirky FFG/XWing inconsistency!

Counting the guides for overlapping is a practicality I'd say. Otherwise you would sooner or later end up having to balance a ship with its guide on an other ships base...

Agreed, and therefore should be included for everything for consistency.
