Five Imperials walk into a BARR

By Jon D, in X-Wing

So I've been running tables at the FLGS doing X-Wing demos and trying to generate some interest in the game. Today, I was challenged by a repeat player who picked up a starter box, and likes Empire. I have never really run a Rebel list past the theory stage, so we sat down to make some squads.

Empire: Obsidian Squadron Pilots x4, Bounty Hunter w/HLC.

He had to borrow some of my ships, but this seemed like a solid list with decent PS (which he wanted) and a decent punch and tank in the Firespray.

Rebels: Dagger Squadron Pilot w/HLC, Prototype A-Wing with SD and PtL, Red Squadron Pilot x2.

Basic and tough, with the A-Wing being a blocker and general irritant, never used one and expect it to be annoying and splatted after better targets are dealt with.

Things didn't go as planned, honestly. My opponent spread his TIEs out in a line with the Firespray anchored on the edge farthest from my squad, while I set the Reds in wingman pairing with the Dagger in the rear. The A-wing decided to go play with the Firespray.

Great dice rolls on both sides, but in the end, the Dagger was down to one hull, Red 2 had lost his shields and the A-Wing had lost a shield.

Every Imperial was destroyed.

Now my question is, with the exception of flying his TIEs in formation (which I suggested) are these lists comparable? I don't want to think I hit him with a list he couldn't handle, that's not remotely fair to a new player, and I want a fair fight.

Upside he asked for a rematch at a later date.

Well, unless I'm very much mistaken, the A-Wing illegally has Push the Limit, because even if it had the Test Pilot Title from Rebel Aces, you cannot put it on a PS1 A-Wing.

Crap. It didn't make a lick of difference since I was using it for Focus that I never used, but still irritates me.
