Beta suggestion: Corusca gem

By Ferretz, in General Discussion

One suggestion I have after reading about the different gems that could be put into a lightsaber in these rules, is to include rules for using a Corusca gem in a lightsaber.

The setting describes these as being useful as lightsaber crystals, and it could give the Edge of the Empire adventure, Jewel of Yavin, a new spin on things. What if the Force Sensitive character, in the crew of criminals bent on stealing the Jewel of Yavin, was planning to keep the jewel for himself to make a lightsaber? Would it tempt the Force user into backstabbing his friends?

I have a force sensitive jedi bounty hunter, in my group, who seems he'll bent on obtaining a lightsaber and being a sith, so I guess that would be one of the outcomes with this adventure when I run it.

I like your suggestion.

Jewel of Yavin spoilers:

In Jewel of Yavin, we set it up to hand off a fake gem our benefactors, leave a second fake gem in the museum, and make off with the real gem and the money.

My doctor is a budding force sensitive with a broken lightsaber.

When the Jedi showed up, she said that she only needed a cut from the gem. Since the rest of the party was only interested in the money, I gave up my share in exchange from the gem itself. We met up with the Jedi once we shook our tail, and we decided to split the Gem.

So my doctor has a Corusca gem and a broken lightsaber, I think giving the gem special stats would be a great way to make the gem/lightsaber/reward more special.

Given that the gem was featured in a module, it seems like a good idea. That said, I bet they're holding a few crystal types back to include in splat books later. If they give all the toys out in the core rulebook there will be nothing for the supplements.

Man I want some corellian soul gems. Instead of that familiar hum the saber would emit the cries of the dead

I figured that was a given.

As for how a Corusca Gem would operate in terms of being a lightsaber crystal, I'd say use the Sapith Gem as a baseline, since it offers the chance to get Breach 2 and has a higher base damage rating than the Ilum crystal.

I'm with this idea. My first thought when reading that bit in SoF was using a soul gem as a LS crystal.
