Paint jobs for Tie Fighter

By devotedknight, in X-Wing

I'm trying to decide how to paint my Tie Fighters, Tie Interceptors, Tie Advanced, Tie Bombers.

Any suggestions?

Would you stripe the Model First?

do something unique! Everyone has stripes and stuff.

Oh and make them all one color scheme so they seem like one fleet!

All my TIEs (all varients) have a basic paint scheme, modded to fit the type. It's gold trim added around the viewport, and the hatch cover painted gold. Then the ship's hull number painted on one of the solar panels on each side, also gold.

In theory, all your ships should be based at the same place, be it a Star Destroyer or base or whatever. So they should all be part of the same wing/group. You could give them two sets of markings, one for the group and one for individual squadrons. See what the US Navy does for their carrier air groups to see what I mean.

Blail Berg is on a similar thought, but I think having some form of squadron marking for all your TIE Fighters and a different marking for your Interceptors would look really cool. If you've only got one TIE Advanced, make him the CAG Commander and don't put any squadron markings on him, just the group markings.

Whatever you do, if you keep the colours/markings consistent across all the models, it should look great.

White!

Attack Squadrons did some extravagant paintjobs. I recommend painting sections of the panels.

First things first, I would go and paint the Twin Ion Engines. On the TIE and TIEint, they are the 2 dots on the left and right of the round butt. On the TIEadv, they are the 2 rectangles on the end of the spine, on both the top and bottom.

Afterwards, you could consider the whole blue vs grey debate. For Bombers, the Gamma Squadron has white stripes down the length of the wings.

Painting wise, you do not really need to strip the paint. I simply paint over the current stuff, and I do not touch difficult parts like the canopy of the TIE

This is what I did for my Howlrunner. It is decorative and looks fancy, but it'd be too much work for all your TIEs. I like the look of the TIEs as they are. I just wanted to paint one, so I went all out on the wing. Firesprays make for some great painting and color schemes.

****!!!!

That is super-sexy! Does the script translate into anything?

Oh, the writing is Aurebesh (star wars letters) for "Fully Armed and Operational TIE Fighter"

I did these to get away from the normal stripe job.
