Falcons are really easy to destroy

By Jobu, in X-Wing

I think since the OP has such a low post count that D4rkT3mp4r made a second account and padded the post count just so he could brag a little...

So, you are saying I made this account in April of 2012 to plan to brag on the X-Wing forum? Who is that guy anyhow?

I am okay with people disagreeing with me, I am okay with people taking something I said the wrong way, I am not okay with people making things up about me. Please don't do that, its really uncalled for.

The guy who just won the US national championship at gencon... by beating a double falcon list.

It was supposed to be funny.

No malice intended. well...a bit maybe since this is a pretty hot topic with a very inflammatory title.

Point taken. And now that I know who you were talking about, yeah that is a funny post you made.

Part of me wants to edit away my upsetness, but this post will do instead.

Jobu, I'm actually hoping, perhaps against better judgment, that Dagonet wasn't commenting on your post...

I was. I found the OP written in a tone that was arrogant and to me the post came across as saying how good he was and if people are having trouble (which they have, considering their prevalence) then that must be because they are not as good as the topic starter.

That being said, my post was neither adressing that nor helpful in furthering a discussion. It was just a snide remark, I was trying to be glib and should not have posted it, for which I apologize. My problems with the opening post were mine and I should've kept them such or voiced them in such a way as actually being part of a conversation.

I'm confused

Is this a "I am a pro, and I win every game thread "

I don't know

The title and post just sounds strongly arrogant, with a question at the end to make it seem like it's not what it seems

Like I said earlier, that wasn't really the intent. I also point out that I am not winning tournaments (2nd place) and regularly lose against swarms. I never once said I am a pro and never lose, other people decided to infer that. People also decided that I think I am awesome because I blow up Falcons. I never said that.

The question was meant to be legitimate, based on what I read on the forums, it seems like everyone struggles hard against a Falcon and I am just not understanding how that can be. They are good but very far from unbeatable.

I am kind of surprised by the hostility here.

Yeah, I think we can safely dispense with the "we are SUCH a friendly crowd in here" for a while. The last time I saw something as bad as this forum, I was on a 40k forum, and that was many years ago.

I like grape soda.

You WHAT?!?!

Here is scientific evidence that shows grape soda is bad for your teeth:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2676420/

Also it's gross.

From these facts we can conclude that you are objectively wrong to like grape soda.

I hereby denounce you and label you pariah.

Congratulations OP, you have a solid counter to the pie-plate that everyone loves/hates so much.

Now remove your two Gold Sq. and replace them with say. X's or B's. Then try facing Fat-Han with Engine, flown by a skilled player.

I'm waiting for WonderW to come in here and rip this guy a new one...*getting popcorn bowl ready*

There are a good few solid counters to Fat Falcons.

Most agree on this.

It is however not as easy to create a squadron that deals with both Fat Falcons ánd slippery arc-dodgers (Phantoms mostly)

If you succeed you are a **** good player and you should win far more than you lose.

Science be dammed.. Science can't kill my love of the grape stuff.. NEVER!!!.. Where's my cutlass.. I have a duel to start..

LOL.. Grape is gooooood... mix it with orange and root beer...

No malice intended. well...a bit maybe since this is a pretty hot topic with a very inflammatory title.

It's not an inflammatory title, not unless people get personally offended by people not loving certain ships as much as they do.

Think ion Ys could do both? They don't feel like they should work vs 3P0+Millennium Falcon+PTL, but they don't care about Chewy and could walk him or phantoms off the board. Four Y-Wings are also a lot of HP for the Falcon to chew through.

I kindly beg to differ.

It is first of all far from "easy" to kill a named YT.

No ship with 8 hull and 5 shields is.

Tie fighters are easy to kill. That is why these tend to be a lot cheaper.

Suggesting a Falcon is 'easy' to kill seems to suggest you are a god among mere mortals while we, scrubs, fail to comprehend your wisdom and thus lack capability that a Falcon is in fact easy to kill.

(yes; That last sentence was 'tongue in cheek'. Please do not take it any other way)

I have not seen a 'take all comers' (tournament/flexible) build I like with multiple Y-wings.

Feel free to point me in that direction. :)

I'm arguing semantics here, and maybe I'm wrong about what inflamaterry means, but I think intent is the important factor, not what potential inferences people could make (which is out of a writer's control).

Its less that its unkillable and more that it becomes dull when all you ever face is falcons.

I only play with friends i don't have this issue we change lists weekly so you never know what you face, but i can see that in tournaments facing 3 near identical falcon lists would detract from the fun.

And you cant account for "luck", you could just have an off day where the reds don't like you and then the falcon will just mock you.

Clearly though its a sore spot for alot of people and making a thread saying i can kill falcons is going to pour salt on that wound.

Of course Falcons are easy to kill. You should know how it's done by now.

Give it up already. I do not care that you keep posting nonsense in reply to anything I post.

But it derails threads. So stop it. Thanks.

A Falcon with 8 hull and 5 shields is NOT easy to kill. It shouldn't be.

It costs a whopping 42 points before any upgrades and tend to hover around 50 after.

Note that I said "not easy", wholly different from "unkillable" or similar.

Inflammatory: likely to flame or easily combustible. Irritating.

I think most post from earlier in this thread fall under those categories...

Just to throw this out there, a squad that can poop on Falcons and Phantoms:

Blue Squadron Pilot w/ FCS, HLC & Flechette Torps (x3)

Or if you're worried about Predator:

Dagger Squadron Pilot w/ FCS & HLC.

They'll pretty consistently roll 4 hits. Even with C-3PO they have a good chance of killing a Falcon in two rounds.

For Phantoms it's all about staggering your formation to cover all approaches. Good luck dodging out of range 3 and an HLC could care less about 4 defense dice.

I think that's the wrong definition - that's the one for material objects, not pieces of speech or writing. My dictionary has it as "arousing or intending to arouse angry or violent feelings". So I suppose things can be unintentionally inflammatory or intentionally so. Clearly the topic was at least the latter, but we don't know it was the former. I dunno, I reckon people are just wound up cos they're fed up fighting the same squads and not being able to fly whatever ships they like best because they feel compelled to choose a squad that will counter a particular build, and no-one'so really trying to annoy each other. Well, not literally no-one.

That proves that they take a lot of hits to kill, it doesn't prove that dealing those hits is not easy. I'm not saying it is easy, merely that it could be, regardless of their HP. Imagine a ship with 0 green, 0 red, a dial of nothing but red banks and white forwards and costing 80 pts - you surely can't deny that that would be easy to kill?

Thinking of crazy ship specs just got me thinking - would it be fun to play with a large ship (not huge) with side firing arcs but no forward or backwards ones?

Funny I tore something like this already couple weeks ago on vassal with echo and a mini swarm.

Those bwing can die faster than a Phantom

That doesn't say anything about anything, because pilot skill obviously comes into play.

Echo w/ mini swarm can potentially kill 1 B-Wing a turn at best. 3 B-Wings can potentially kill Echo in 1 turn. If played well, at least 1 B-Wing should always have a shot at Echo whenever Echo is in range.
