X-Wing Mission Control beta released!

By Danthrax, in X-Wing

Umm, you know this is Mission Control and not Command. It looks like they may be too different entities now. One for mission related fun (Mission Control) and the other for squad building (Command).

I suspect they changed the name in order to not cause confusion with Star Wars Command or Star Wars Commander.

And the ':Command' title was making it sound like Battlelore: Command, which is an app to actually play battlelore, not just build squads

Personally I'd like to see a series of 'missions' made that can be completed by 2 non-specific 100 pt squads. That way instead of straight up dogfighting every game, you select a random mission and play that, similar to Armada's mission cards. This is something that can be done in mission control

I dunno... X-Wing Commander wouldn't be that confusing. Plus even if people do find the wrong thing, it's not it's that big of a deal.. Not like they have to worry about trademark infringement or anything...

Here's a link to the tweet from TC when they announced it.

I don't..... EVER want to play a mission. I only ever want to do battles, skirmishes... normal fights. The only time I've ever played a "scenario" is for these huge group events where I don't even really care what happens I'm just there to socialize. I simply don't get the appeal of missions.

Depends on the type of 'mission', though. You can define different types of skirmishes from the regular tournament play, for example.

Anyone remember the 'Hunters' multiplayer match mode from Tribes 2, for example?

:D

Personally I'm not really interested in this. It's hard to make a well balanced scenario that players can't break by building a special force tailored for that mission, plus you want it to be interesting as well. I've very seldom seen this pulled off successfully and I'm reluctant to spend my very limited gaming time on a game that may turn out to be a total bust with huge holes in the win condition.

Bottom line is that models are carefully balanced for the normal ruleset which is a battle scenario. While it might be cool to think about other goals, the ships are not designed to be balanced for different rules and goals and you're asking for imbalances that are likely to throw off the scenario and spoil the fun.

You'll note the missions have a 'like' feature - nothing prevents you from still using user-generated missions, but only bothering to look at the top-rated ones.

It's no guarantee of quality, of course, but can certainly help point in the right direction...

Team Covenant called it Command. If you watch the video, it was only ever announced as Mission Control.

This looks sweet. It will likely become a full blown hub for the games, which will include a super squad builder... in time.

;)

i hope that they make this available on mobile devices. i seem to be exclusively using my Ipad lately. no room in my current apartment for my pc .:(

To people who like this sort of thing, no explanation is needed. To people who don't, no explanation is possible.

Feel free to hate on it all you want. I think this is great, though I will have a suggestion or two to make.

Yeah, and you get attacked for trying too more often than not.

I do not try anymore... much.
