TIE Engines

By HoundsTooth, in X-Wing

... No not upgrade cards again!

I've painted the engines on my TIE's and TIE Bombers as well as my Lambda Shuttle. I'm about to make a start on my Phantom and Defender and can't figure out where the engines actually are? I've google'd both ships and can't see any hint of engine glow on any of the pics! Am I missing something? Do they have different Ion engines to standard TIE's?

... Help!

Ties don't really have engine glow either. Not sure what you painted.

They are the little red dots on the back of them.

This. But the Defender and Phantom don't have the same 'parts' so I'm not sure what to paint red. Or if they are actually red at all! Ever wish you hadn't started something?

Obviously, TIE Defenders and TIE Phantoms don't have engines. Space moves around them.

They do. There are three arranged around the back of the ship.

Twin Ion Engines Engines?

Is that like ATM (Automatic Teller Machine) Machine? Or PIN (Personal Identification Number) Number?

:)

I think I found good examples:

And the infamous ATF fluid...

How dare you show this pornographic material on a family site, think of the children!

Well, for the Phantom and Defender, 'TIE' obviously stands for Triple Ion Engines. ;)

I put my engine glows in the middle on my Defenders like this, it took adding some bits of plastic rod to add detail 1st though.

The REAL question is...where did you put the engines from the TIE Bomber?

The only time I've seen the backside of a TIE Bomber in FFG's art was...

...and...uhhhh.... that don't look right.

it's actually the 2 protruding dots on each cylinder. Will post pics later.

And I think this TIEbomber has an engine upgrade

I gotcha covered.

Another tricky one is the TIE Advanced which also isn't modeled on, I thought it was 2 dots but it should be 4

As nice as this was to see.. the minis from FFG don't have that set up on the Defender. I like the idea off the card, but that is gonna be a pain in the tush..

I might go with this idea actually... Might not be factually accurate but it looks **** cool! :)

Thanks for this thread. I just got a pair of Defenders and was wondering where the engines were -- the card art makes it look like the rear central circle is the engine, but it clearly isn't.

I was using this as reference for my TIEdef. I simply painted dots on the corner where the wing spruce meets the middle ball with metallic red paint

They both got three, Triple Ion Engines. Look for cut scenes from Defender of the empire and rebel assault 2, rebel strike 2. I can't remember th name of the one with the phantom piloted by rookie 1.

JFYI There Interceptors in ROTJ that have a gren glow in their engines.

Easier to point out that the best close up of the Interceptor's backside is as they are being chased around the Neb-B. They clearly have red engine glow in the same position as a regular TIE/ln.

IM-POSSIBLE!! Pics or it didn't happen! Haha, overreaction aside, I'm am genuinely curious.

Also, they might have Twin Ion Engines, but the red could simply be exhaust ports or something similar.
