Crossing WFRP with DH for Source Material?

By Gregorius21778, in Dark Heresy Gamemasters

Greetings, brethern

today, I purchased a copy of "Renegade Crowns", a source book about "Domain Generaton" for WFRP. A nice little tool book to flash medivial fiefdoms in a chaotic, rather barren and anarchic region known as "the border princes".

I did this, because I started a campaign on Dusk recently and found the simple-but-logistic creation rules for terrain, towns, villages, little homesteads and ruins to be a good resource. If a bit pricey, if you cannot make use of the "how to make princes" rules or the extra careers (which give good ideas for occupations for pcs /npcs from such worlds.

Besides pointing at this little thing a tool to consider for everyone who ist into building small regions on planets like Dusk, Seraphis Secundus, Zilmans Domain, Acreage or even Iocanthus me wonders if any other GMs use other WFRP Sources this way...and want to share suggestions?

At the moment, I have an eye on the old world creatures compendium as a resource/inspiration for more "Predators & Vermins". Anyone owning this one?

No I haven`t thought of it up until now.

But it seems like a pretty good idea to me, And since I allready own a copy of Renegade Crowns I might use it for my own DH campaign.

thanks for the Idea.

Its really one of those small ideas that nobody thinks of until someone says it, and than everybody goes "whoa! why didn`t I think of it?

Cudos for your brilliant mind!

Sorry but.....you are making fun of me, aren´t you?? I mean, to some-one into WH40K-RPG, this pretty little book has "feudal world" written all over it! ;)

Anyway:
Do you own any of the other books from the WF-Series? The "Beasts Compendium" or the this "Career book" ?

My local store does not have them in the shelves, so I can´t guess if a WH40K-player would be able to use them for inspiration.
If you do have them..what is your opinion?

Hey

I´m using the mutation table from Tome of Corruption, it is much more fun than those minor and major mutations found in Dark Heresy and works quite well (i droped some of the results when they felt to" fantasy-ish" and some needed a little change to work with the DH rules).

I also own the Old World Bestiary (the awful german translation :( )but didn´t use it for DH yet, but it should be possible to convert some of the creatures as predators and/or vermin i guess.

The WFRP-Group i´m GMing agreed on using the insanity and corruption rules from DH some time ago, which works perfect so far.

Hi Angron and thanks for the answer

Und ja, eine Menge deutsche Übersetzungen sind jetzt mal echt Murks! happy.gif

you mentioned the "Tome of Corruption". In fact "another mutation" is something I am looking for since I already start having problem making up enough diverse descriptions when it comes to another group of mutants on dusk.

Since you use it yourself, mind giving me fell about how much the book is about "chaos mutation" and how usefull the section is? How about the rest of the book? To "WFRP"-specifiy or "adaptable"? Thanks for your support!

I just looked over the Tome of Corruption again and here are my toughts about it´s compatibility:

Chapter 2 - The Lost and the Damned: Some backround on the causes for Mutation (including rules on corrupted environments), this chapter could be converted to DH without any trouble if you drop the WFRP specific examples.

Chapter 3 - A Catalogue of Change: Extremly useful, there are around ~175 mutations in this Chapter including a d1000 table for random mutations and 4 chaos god specific tables. As mentioned before some of the mutations need a little work to be used in DH. Furthermore there a 5 mutation related insanities which are at least a good inspiration for a bunch of mad mutants to annoy your players with.

Chapter 4 - Cults of Chaos: This chapter is not that useful as it is very WFRP specific. Some example Cults and motivations for Chaos God specific cultists.

Chapter 5 - Objects of Chaos: Tainted paintings, Grimoires, Icons and Relics and Illegal Substances which could be converted with ease and make for some good adventure seeds

Chapter 6 - The Places Between: Only of use if you want to play in a feudal world setting as this chapter describes the wildernes of the old world

Chapter 7 - Beasts of Chaos: Another Chapter that is of almost no use for DH as it describes the Beastmen Tribes

Chapter 8 - Menagerie of the Strange: A collection of chaos tainted critters, partly useful if you want some predators/vermin with a little chaotic twist. Personaly i wouldn´t use the two headed chaos dragon but who knows what strange worlds some acolyts sumble upon ;)

Chapter 9 - Defenders of the Empire: Witch Hunters, Secret Societies, Exorcists, Knights and other enemys of chaos, not that useful

Chapter 10 - The Chaos Wastes: Useful if you want to send your acolyts to a planet tainted by the warp and lost to the dark forces

Chapter 11 - Norsca:Useless for DH, a very cool chapter none the less

Chapter 12 - Hordes of Chaos: Human Chaos tribes, could be useful on a tainted feral world. The Chaos Dwarfs and Dark Elves are useless i guess.

Chapter 13 - Slaves to Darkness: This Chapter deals with Champions of Chaos and Sorcerers, maybe useful to find some more inspiration for dark pacts and chaotic villains. The Gifts of the Gods could be handy too

Chapter 14 - Chaos Armoury: Blasphemous Objects, Chaos Armour, Chaos Weapons, Daemon Weapons: This Chapter could be of great use if you want to equip your villain or radical Inquisitor with something unique. Some details should be changed to import those equipment in DH but it could be a great addition

Chapter 15 - The Ruinous Powers: Nothing new here, info on the Gods of Chaous

Chapter 16 - Beyond the Wastes of Chaos: Lethal stuff in here, the corrupting influence of the warp, legendary Locations in the realms of chaos. Could make for some good adventure seeds.

Chapter 17 - Chaos Sorcery: I guess the chaos magic could be converted into psionic powers or minor/major arkana with some effort giving your rouge psyker, daemonhost or insane sorcerer a chaotic twist and some ugly new powers to use

Chapter 18 - Legions of Chaos: Daemons all the way ! Most of those can be found in the DH Corebook and the rest could be converted with a bit of rework, there is a daemon-generator included here but i don´t know how useful it is.

Chapter 19 - Masters of Chaos: You want to kill your Acolyts with styl or want to center your campaign around one of the masters of chaos, here are their stats: A Bloodthirster of Khorne, the Great Unclean One, the Keeper of Secrets and the Lord of Change. Deadly Enemies that could be converted to DH with some rework

First of all, thanks for in-detail description. This was very helpfull!

All in all, I think I am going to purchase the book.

Some of it sounds very familiar to the very-very old books "Realms of Chaos: Slaves to Darkness" and "Realms of Chaos: The Lost and the Damned". But most of it will be of good use to me..especially since one my group is on the (rather primitive) world of dusk, so some of the "chaos-critters" might be very good to depicture the tainted fauna of the world.

Many-many thanks again!

I think its a good Idea to use the DH Combat rules in WFRP cause the combat seems to have evolved. Like the Renegade Kingdoms idea. The tome of Corruption is a perfect tome of usefull evil. You only need to mix a bit of Tech in and you could keep your game going on the Tome of Corruption for years. Another great addition to any Dark Heresy GM is the Cyberpunk RPG. Version 1 or 2. Well written and good for setting up evil inter Galactic Finance Conglomorates. White Wolfs WYRM and Technocracy setting are cool inspiration too.

The 40K Universe is very diverse. Almost all forms of fantasy, science, action and, above all, horror settings fit in. Love the 40K Universe and I am greatful for the relatively elegant rules to play with and a commendation for the psycher rules.

Happy GM
