Gates, forced or chosen movement and just hangin' out

By TheBossInTheWall, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

If you draw a card that directs you to either choose or have to go to another location on the board, tells you the immediatebly have an encounter there, and a gate is in the location moved to are you just sucked through the gate? Do you have an encounter first? Also closing/sealing a gate is considered to be your encounter that turn correct? It doesn't say in the manual, just that you can do it.

Also if you come though a gate, but choose not to attempt to seal it you do not have an encounter correct? Since the gate replaces the location. And in choosing not to close the gate, you do not have an encounter that turn correct? If it is not an encounter, do you have your encounter that turn after closing the gate? (For example, another player is in the other world you could close the gate to and no other gate is open on the board. So you don't want to have them be lost in time and space you wait until they're out)

I would assume you can't have an encounter there since it is stated in the manual somewhere that you can't have encounters where there is an open gate. Anyone have a page number? (Nmind, I found it).

You should carefully reread pages eight and nine of the AH manual, Phase III: Arkham Encounters. The text indicates that encounters are not had if there is a gate at a location. Either you take an encounter, or are sucked into a gate, or if you've explored it, you can choose to try to close or seal. That's it.

Right, that's what I thought. Thanks. :) What about closing a gate. Is it an encounter or just something you can do after movement?

Closing the Gate is your encounter...and don't forget if you move out of the space the gate you just explored is you loose you explored gate marker (so you can't come vback to close it)
