2009 Canadian National Championships - Live Feed
Holy $#%#$%R#@WASFCDSF go Mike and Mark! Wait... GO MIKEY!
Live updates as we go through the top 8.
3 of the Top 4 are the same from Path of the Master. That, and it's the same Semifinals match between Jeremy Ray and Kirk Polka.
Mignon did it Mignon did it Mignon did it Mignon did it yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay
Wow. Epic.
Congratulations to Kirk,
but didn't the guy running the event say "no character card if less then 50 players were at the event" in the info thread?
(40 signed up and atleast 2 got booted cus of deck list problems)

Agreed. Mignon winning is even better than Dan winning.
Massive congrats. PLEASE KIRK BE THE FIRST CHAMPION TO HAVE GOOD ON YOUR CHARACTER!
Well if jeremy and paul were going to lose to someone I am glad it was kirk polka, bout time the made scientist gets a card. I also hope Jeremy ray or paul bitner win a character this year.
I officially hate a new low and perfect sense of balance, those two cards were my worst nightmares ever....
Good Job Kirk, I guess i'll have to come back and beat you sometime now to even out those two previous draws + 1 win you have over me.

Can I hope for a tournament report from your half of the Top 8 Order decks? I'm really curious about how Gill fared with the new anti-commit cards...
Also, you definitely wouldn't hate A New Low (so much anyway, lol) if you swallowed the tri-symbol pill and ran Destiny
I don't plan to play order anymore really, and I know Brian is going to post the top 8 decklists for Can Nats, So i'll work up a report sometime soon and give my analysis of the meta from the Order point of view. I have good news and bad news for order decks in general. Good news, the anti commit cards generally don't mean anything if you know what you are doing, unfortunately against olexa, his character just outclassed mine and i couldn't do much vs his anti committing cards because of his blinding rages (use my olcadans to get around those bad boys) and his character ability to make sure i didn't get crazy with my finisher and i couldn't get a proper set up (+ double feline spike is kind of hard to deal with)
Generally you can push past the anti commit cards by using non commit effects like olcadan's and ira spinta to get rid of em and use your commit effects to blow them out of the water. those same cards are also really good against destiny which apparently order has a problem with.
Congrats to Kirk. It was an epicly fun time but I'm glad to be stateside. I don't have anything fancy to report as I was too hungover during the actual tournament to pay attention enough for a report.
Props:
- anyone with a sexy voice or character card.
Slops:
- ow my head...
Congrats to the winner of course, but huge props to Mark for doing so well out there. Sounds like you had a touch of the Swiss champ's curse.
Good job kirk, see people this is what playing legacy gets you hehe j/k. awesome job man.
Congrat to Kirk for the big win. Hey, Shajir and Mike, you guys represented us well, next time perhaps, but won't be long... Hey Mark, thx for attending our National, to be the swiss champ in such a competitive field is a big deal, to do it alone in a new meta is definitly a great feat. See whether there are chance to meet you in your turf. Congrat to all those who top 8 and of course, those who attend the tourney. Thx Jay for organizing the event for us and Antigoth helping around and give us the Live Feed.

Turnabout is the best card in the format. Just ask people who played Kirk.
So was it an actual Mignon? Or Mignin into Chun Li?
Edit: Oh yeah CONGRADS BUDDY!

FINALLY I'm not the only person to use this **** card!
Props + amazement go to Kirk.
It was sandbag into chun-li and the decklist will instantly send you into a convulsion upon viewing if you don't understand his goal.
^^ Agreed, it was the Chun-li... two sandbag-ers for top 2... Mind you, the Mignon is super strong and Kirk Polka and his deck are calculated pieces of work.
About turnabout.. wait until you read my detailed tourney report, my 1-1 match tie with Kirk in Swiss ended on another crazy epic turn where he played 2 spikes, blocked 3 of my attacks, and played one of them back at me ala turnabout (also lived with 1 life after half block) = crazy!!!

Maybe I am little biased but I am not sure I considered my deck as sandbagging since I did not switch characters once during swiss. I will admit I switched to Chun-li vs. Jon and Shajir but it seemed to make sense for me. Anyways as always I will post my post tournament shoutouts
Kirk: Congrats man you played like a champ and I really hope you get your character card still. You worked very hard for it .
UFS House: Thanks as always for a great time and some Jon Herr bucks on that pizza. Those were some good times at Arizona grill. Paul you are still a BMF. Jon I hope I can still move after beating you. Matt enjoy Maximum Carnage and I can't wait to swap war stories on that game at Origins.
Keith Drake and Danny Fung: Hanging out with you guys from 11-2AM was some of the most fun I had all weekend. From the line we stood in for no reason down to the trek through the marsh that experience was a winner.
Rochester NY crew: It was great seeing you all again and our games were great. I always look forward to talking to you guys about everything.
Dutpod: I barely knew you and yet you covered my food bill at Arizona grill. You rock man and I will repay the hospitality next time we meet in the states. That sucks that you did not make top cuts but your Alex deck is really good and I am sure you make top cuts anyday with it.
Hatman: I glad we finally got to play and talk considering we crossied paths a few times over the years but never faced each other. I really wanted Hatman in my top 8.
Mr. Platinum: You rana great show like always and you always put up the coolest trophies every year as prizes.
Shajir: It was great finally playing you and I am truly sorry our game went to time. You are great played with an equally good deck.
Mike Lowe: It is always great to play you and congrats on beating out two other Chun-li's to make top cuts.
Omar: I wish you were there.
Antigoth: You rock for the speedy reports on what was happening and helping Jay run the show.
Tuesday: Congrats on being the swiss champ your deck was a beast man.
Maximum Carnage....
Did I just read that you own that amazing game, and lent it to Matt?
....I sure miss my SNES....
Maximum Carnage was the only part I needed to see to fathom just how awesome Andrew is. *tips hat*
GOD I miss the 16-bit era sometimes. Fond memories of playing that game over and over (and OVER) again. (and the much less awesome sequal, Separation Anxiety; these memories are a bit less fond)
Congrats to Kirk on pulling out the big win! I really hope you get your character card, as I'm sure it will be something very interesting indeed.
Congratulations also to Mr. Olexa for coming so close to being the second person to win a second character card, and everyone else who made it to Day 2 for playing so hard and giving those of us who couldn't go something to be excited about, and something to look forward to at Worlds, too.

Thanks HolyDragonCloud and MegaGeese. Last weekend Matt Kohl mentioned his week long desire to replay Maximum Carnage so Jeremy found a copy of it at our local Mom and Pop game shop and bought it for Matt. As soon as he bought it I felt the need to also replay the game so I am also working my way through it and ATM I am at the Fantastic Four Lab. It is funny you mentioned Separation Anxiety because Jeremy and I had an hour long discussion on the way home from Ohio last week about if that game was good or not. I was willing to sacrifice some quality for the game to be 2 player while Jeremy was not.
