A Game of Thrones LCG - The Current environment

By galonso, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

New player here. I have been playing CCGs for a long time. I picked up this game because I love the books. Played with the Core set and some friends and had a great time.

I purchased 3 Core Sets and 3 of all the available Chapter packs. Are there any other cards (ie promos) Ill need for competitive play?

When building decks for competitive play, should I build them with joust or melee in mind (or both)? Is the deck building process similar or different for each? How does it work at the major tournaments?

What are the house deck archtypes in the current environment for LCG? Which are viable and which are not? What are the decks to beat?

Where can I go to get information from veteran knowledgeable players? The tzumainn site seems outdated but contains most of the info I would want but not for LCG.

Is there anyone having regular LCG tournaments or is everyone waiting for the release of Kings Landing and the Greyjoy expansion?

Who plans to play at Gen Con Worlds?

Thanks,

Gabriel

nope, you have them all. just note that Pyromancer's Cache (The War of Five Kings, F13) and Jaqen H'ghar (Sacred Bonds, F43) banned from tournament play in LCG.

well often a solid joust deck can do okay in melee. It doesn't hurt to have a joust deck or two and then a melee deck or two. A few of the differences are that you will want more resources in a melee and can afford to play slower in melee.

You will never have to run the same deck for both in a tournament (though that could be an interesting special tournament). They are differentiated into melee tournaments and joust tournamnets and you will know ahead of time which it will be.

not much different from the CCG. Lannister kneels, Baratheon can rush, Stark kills (and thats about it), Targ has some burn and attachemnt recurssion/control. Well you obviously haven't looked at some of the other threads yet ;) i think the deck to beat right now is anything that runs Men With no King and reinforcement events. after that i'd say baratheon and lannister are tied for strongest builds w/out Men With no King.

Right here. There are a number of threads discussing the game right now, including strategy as well as decks. Also, the deck building forum is a good resource.

at least two from my group are going, we usually have 3, but one guy can't make it this year and we might talk a newer guy into it.

welcome to the game. If you enjoy it half as much as i do i know you will have fun.

Thanks for your response.

Galonso, good to have you here.

Lars answered most of your questions.

I use the following site for looking up the cards not found at tzumainn's site.

http://etcg.pl/portal/agot

However, it doesn't seem they are updated with Kings Landing Edition, so maybe I'm just directing you to another site lacking in all that you need.

Our meta in SW Missouri has about 12 or so players with 2-8 showing up on a given play night. We have at least 6 guys planning on playing in the World Championship events at Gencon even though several of those guys are new players.

I tried making two different decks utilizing Men With No King. Unlike Lars I couldn't get it to work, so I'm not sure I call them the strongest Archtype. Lanny kneel is probably the strongest in my mind, but I personally have the most success with Targ.
