I've played about six or seven games with this, both in random matchups that it SHOULDN'T have had any problems with - Air/Chaos Geese and Starter Ken mill.

So far, I've definitely determined that there's too many three-checks in this deck. URGH ><

You know what Astrid does, so there's nothing for me to say. Tear this apart, yo.

>_> This looks a LOT like my build... but anyways. I'm curious, have you used Defender in it yet? I'm interested in how well it works in her (I don't actually own any), and why only 3 Envoy?

And there's a reason why, ma'am xD I'm not ashamed to admit I copypasta'd yours and then worked it a bit more to my liking.

I went with three Envoy because the deck is...74 cards, I think, and even with the added thickness, it draws a TON of cards already. One Paying Respects and two Aquakinesis per turn is already +3 to her handsize, and so Envoy would often put me dangerously close to cycling...which kills the damage pump. Sad face.

I haven't managed to get Defender to hit the board yet, sadly. I have Defender looped Pommel Smash on someone before with Donovan, so methinks it could have similarly awesome effects with Astrid's ridiculous pumps (and also the ability to recur those weapon blocks on their turn).

I'm definitely going down to three each of Wolf Strike and Chobi Jishi, though, because I'd always draw them, but never managed to Reversal with the one or need the lifegain from the other. I may also cut one copy of Resourceful.

I finally got my third Bloodied, so it's time to actually have every card for the deck now.

One other thing - maybe it's just crappy luck, but in about seven games, she consistantly managed to check attacks when going for what would be the kill attack...but would otherwise check foundations just fine. Gah.

No problem, Astrid's probably my absolute fav deck that I've ever built, and I'm really proud of how it's done so far in tournaments. It's also just entertaining to tell someone that Weak Slash is your finisher.

I actually took out 2 Wolf Strikes in mine and replaced them with Bayonette Lunges, since they work a little better when going for the kill on my turn, but whenever I get to play the deck again I'll probably make some more changes to the attack line-up. I kept 4 Envoys in my build partially b/c they are 1/5 weapons, but also because people like to Owlface them into my staging area (so they make good Cutting Edge fodder). I think 4 Resourceful is a little unecessary too (debating on bumping mine down to 3 b/c of the block and 4cc), but I do like having it there in my hand to pitch for Paying Respects.

At first, I ALMOST went with just three Paying Respects.

Then I played the deck.

Dear God, that card is stupid in multiple. Reaver's Axe? +2. Valkynsverd? +3. Etc. I think I once enhanced with Personal Style, Astrid, Reaver's Axe, and Valkynsverd with three Paying Respects on the board at the same time...stupidity ensued.

Hmm, Bayonette Lunge...that actually would work better, as it has the higher speed and essentially removes its own progressive due to the check boost.

I've got a regional coming up in a month, so I'm just fiddling around with stuff. But there's two people that play Astrid a bit in our group, including our scout, so I'm sure we'll be tinkering with it a bit. I'll let you know if we come up with some insane tech or anything.

And there were three Astrids at the regional we just had here =)

I really like fire shadow in the deck, It has amazing stats, an amazing block, and it's only a 3diff. It's weak slash that shares two symbols with your character and a high instead of low block.

Astrid is an absolute beast, i've been playing her off fire lately although I know order is certainly more competitive, fire is just too fun :D . I try to keep all my attacks to very low diff, because checking those 3ccs does happen a lot, it just doesn't hurt when my attack chains are like, pommel smash -> weak slash -> fire shadow -> fireshadow. (I run Hiogi, Tyr's Warding, Pommel, Weak, and Fire Shadow, but only 3 Hiogi's, so 19 3ccs. Works very well for me so far.)

<3 Astrid, she's my girl. I actually have a Fire Astrid in the works again, though I doubt I'll ever enter it in anything big. Backhanded Axe Slash, Pommel Smash, Tyr's, Shield Breaker, Fire Shadow for attacks, but the real fun is with Paying Respects and any of the following: ShadoWar (with all but Fire Shadow), Reaver's Axe, Valkynsverd, Brooding, and other random pumps.
