Willful

I'm pretty sure I already know the answer to this one, but this is a "just in case" thing.

Willful
R: Before you fail a control check that was modified by your opponent, that check is successful instead. Discard this card from your card pool and draw 1 card.

Here's the scenario.

Player A's character has the All, Fire, and Order resource symbols (Astrid, let's say). Player A attempts to play a card whose symbols are All/Chaos/Void (Card 1). The card is revealed in the hand, etc. Player B responds with a check modifier (BRT, let's say) that results in what will be a failed check.

Is it possible for Player A to then respond with Willful, as, assuming they pass the check and the ability isn't negated, while it doesn't match a symbol with Card 1, after being played and it is resolving, it discards itself from the card pool prior to Card 1 being placed in the card pool?

Or, more likely the correct answer, it is possible to respond with Willful because Card 1 is not in the card pool when Willful is attempted, and cards only must meet the resource restriction before a control check is made, not during the entire "attempting to play" process (i.e., Transitional Zone)?

Card isnt in card pool, you can play willful.

That being said if you fail willful and somehow pass the other card you failed to play, you now have a clogged card pool and cant play anything else to the cp that turn.

Right, it's not in your card pool. However Fred, if you fail willful it just gets discarded, it doesn't get added to the card pool.

My bad, was thinking of another situation where this happened and the willful was on the recieveing end of a Seal of cease.
