Disrupting Op Fire on MGs

By munchingfoo2, in Tide of Iron

I'm getting very annoyed that my units are being mown down by the MGs rapid op fire.

Just to clear up before I go any further, am I correct in saying that the only way to stop an MG shooting at every one of your moving troops in it's range is to suppress it?

If so, this seems a little unfair to me. If an MG in op fire hits my moving unit with normal fire, my moving unit (squad) has to stop and becomes fatigued. However, if I hit an MG which is in op fire with one of my units, it can still go on shooting through out this turn!

Am I reading this rule correctly? Or can I fatigue the MG using normal fire too?

I think I may have misinterpreted the rules...

I had assumed "damaged" applied to squads, but it seems only to apply to vehicles. So a squad that takes hits doesn't need to stop. That makes things a little easier.

I think you caught it but to be clear.

An active squad that is hit by normal OP fire takes casualties (looses figures) and stays active and can continue moving.

An active squad that is hit by suppressive OP fire receives a condition token (pinned or disrupted) and is fatigued.

A squad in Op fire mode can be silenced if either all figures are removed as a result of a normal attack or takes at least one hit from a suppressive attack, thus immediately fatiguing the unit.

I hope this helps

Only little clarification:

A squad in Op fire mode can be silenced (in a sense of fatigueing it), if taking at least 1 succesfull hit as a result of a normal attack (you do not have to kill all its figures) or takes at least one hit from a suppressive attack, thus immediately fatiguing the unit.

I think you are wrong there: Just taking casualties is not enough to end OP-fire. You need to kill the MG (usualy the last to go) or Pin the MG-Squad.

Don't have the rules with me, but I'm pretty sure Hefsgaaard and Thass are right on this one. A squad in Op-fire is not fatigued when taking hits (normal attack).

I would like to apologize for my yesterday misinformation relating to normal attack against a squad in Op-fire. I lived under impression (and played it so), that a succesful hit to a squad in Op-fire (no matter wheter normal or surpressive) will cause it to become fatigued. However, when I searched the rule book for a confirming that, I did not find any (probably because none such exists preocupado.gif ).
