exact Turns a Toad lasts?

By Jamos, in Talisman Rules Questions

what is the interpetation of 3 turns? The way we play is 3 moves. ie after the third time you moved as a toad that is the last turn you are a toad. at the end of your 3rd turn moving as a toad you discard the toad card and get back your character. So if your turned into a toad after you move and its still your turn it doesnt count as one of your turns as a toad. is this correct? some argue that anytime its your turn that you are turned into a toad it counts as your first turn.

You need to play three full turns as a toad, so the turn you are turned into one does not count, no.

Turns are not always movement based; there are potential situations where a character could take an action during their turn without moving. And missing a turn is still a turn... it simply means you can't do anything. It does not mean that turn never happened and doesn't count. You can't miss something you didn't have. Each time it is the toad's turn, that turn is counted not matter what happens.

a turn is a turn of 1 player, don`t make it harder than it is, you must move 3 times as a toad berfor you turn back to normal, so on your 4 time you move as a normal character. any actions from other players while it is your turn dosen`t count. happy.gif

Yes, but if you miss a Turn while a Toad (i.e. roll a 2-3 in the Forest) it still counts as one of the 3 Turns. Being a Toad is one of the very few situations when losing a Turn is a good thing, since you're safe from board dangers.

Interesting things you say. So if the Swashbuckler wins a battle and takes another turn and then another player misses a turn (doesn't make a move) he can use his ability to take another turn once more? And if you miss your next turn while having Book of Lore in your possession can you then draw a Spell from the Book? Maybe more general questions: Can you take any action while missing a turn? Does missed turn plus another player's turn count as round?

Sorry, I don't understand the first of your questions about the Swashbuckler. I don't undestand why should the Swashbuckler take advantage of his ability because another Character missed a Turn. If a player misses a Turn he does nothing and play passes to the next Character as normal: if Swashbuckler is next, sure can he gain an additional Turn, provided he wins a battle.

If you miss a Turn you miss a Turn completely and can do absolutely nothing. Drawing a Spell thanks to the Book of Lore is doing something.

No action is allowed in your Turn. This doesn't mean you can't do anything in other Character's Turns, even if you missed your last Turn. You may cast a Spell if you have one.

A round is made of X turns, where X is the number of players (perhaps now I understand the first question better; you're talking of 2-player games). If someone is forced to miss a Turn, his missed Turn does count for the purpose of round progression.

Let's make an example: there are 4 players and player 1 draws the Blizzard, it lasts for 2 Rounds (if I remember correctly, starting with the Turn after Blizzard has been drawn). After that play passes to player 2,3,4, then player 1 draws Storm and everybody is forced to miss a Turn, since they're all in the Outer Region. there are 4 missed Turns but round is still passed, so player 1 takes his Turn (here I'm assuming that he drew the Storm on the Ruins Space), makes the last move of 1 space, has an encounter, then Blizzard is discarded. Two rounds have passed, even if the second was entirely made of missed Turns.

Great thanks, I was thinking right then happy.gif And yes, that's what I ment with the question about Swashbuckler.

OK, but this happened to us last game: I was toaded for 3 turns. I hopped around for a bit, hoping not to get killed, and at the end of my third turn, I transformed back into a Gladiator. Immediately, the Ghoul landed on my space and attacked, claiming that I was still supposed to be a toad until the beginning of my NEXT turn, and so my strength should be only 1. I argued that my three turns as a toad ended with my turn, and so I could face him in all my gladiatorial splendour. What's the timing here? Do I detoad at the END of my 3rd turn, or at the beginning of my 4th, before I move?

"...exchange the Toad figure for his character
figure at the end of his third turn." (p. 15)

Of course, given it was the Ghoul who attacked you, he would probably attack via psychic combat and kick your brawny ass, Gladiator generally doesn't pack a lot of Craft.

Aha! Vindicated! :) Actually, for some reason, my gladiator was uber-crafty that time. I kinda concentrated on upping that stat, thinking that I would just collect followers to add to my strength, but as luck would have it, I couldn't find anybody. Not even the poltergeist. Nothing can ever really be planned in this game....that's why I love it! The total randomness of it really appeals to me. I, for one, would welcome the return of the Horrible Black Void!
