How many players show up regularly to events?

By Gizmological, in UFS General Discussion

Just wondering how many people show up regularly to your events.

Now that this game has been around for a few years it can get harder to attract new players due to it having the "must be about to die because it's a little old and not magic, wow, or yugioh" curse. Also though, some optimistic players may be seeing it as old enough to have weathered the storm and so worth getting into.

I knew approximately what the average player group size was and where all the hot spots were for the first 2 years of the game but I can't say I know now. So, go ahead and list your playgroup size, where you're at, if the group in general is serious, casual, etc. and also who from the forums is in your group (if you know their forum names). thanks.

My area: Edwardsville/Collinsville, Illinois

# of players: 2 (not counting myslef, i haven't bought cards since set 9)

Level of interest: Intends to be serious

Tally it is.

Calgary,

6-8 serious/competitive players, i.e. all of which usually attend one of 2 events a week, 4+ of which attend both. If everyone shows up who plays/(still watches and would play on occasion)... we would have in excess of 10-12 players.

We are also slowly but surely attracting new players, set 12 helps, so does the collapse of vs. system (i.e. no new sets). The fact that more of our players are travelling and seeing the fun the community has to offer is also attracting attention and slowly new players who want an active game (yay for many regionals, nationals, potm, etc. etc.)

Indeed, as I have stated elsewhere, this game requires some serious curve to play competitvely and isn't supported by popular anime tv (yugioh.pokemon) or easy-entry, hard-to-master magic... which imo is why it is still played as much as it is today.

My area: Milwaukee, Wisconsin

# of players: 5 - 7 on a regular basis

Level: Serious and casual mix.

It used to be 8 - 10.

We have about 8-10 people in Poughkeepsie that have some cards and want to get into the game, (or get back into the game after some hiatus) but every time we schedule an event not a single one of them shows up >.<

We have 10 now as compared to 6 before set 12.

Two months ago, our average was somewhere between 2 and 4.

As of the last three weeks, our average has shot up to between 8 and 10.

We're hoping for a 12- to 15-man tourney next week, as a lot of players will have finished with finals and will be free again.

Set 12 has done good things for the store. (The store changing locations also helped.)

-Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas-

Pre-Set 12 average attendance: 5-6

Current average attendance: 11

I'm hoping our regional this weekend is the first to break the 30 people barrier.

The Shwa

Well since I can't go Sundays anymore cause of work we drop by 1 >< so at the moment I would hazard to say we get 4-6 active on Sundays.

UK

Helston,Cornwall.

6-8 Usually with a mix of Casual younger gamers and Older serious gamers like myself nick and Steve.

Way back when we used to have 10+ back when more of our group lived in Helston, Most of them moved though but all of them still play UFS.

Middlesboro/Ky

4-5 casual and serious mix

I remember the days of 15-20 man tournaments back in the day, but sadly our store quit selling them so we havent had a new player in over a year!!

Columbus Ohio

Alan, Matt, Jon, Brandon, James, Myself = Usually always guys.
Martha, Derek = Little less than usually always (out of towners).
Heath, Jordon, Kendal = Little less than above.
Gary, Leslie = I miss yous! ZI MEI IS BROKEN / you need to build a better deck! I WILL HELP!
Probably some others I've missed...

We also have occasional other guys that might stop by once in a while that are friends that kinda don't play, people that'll borrow decks kinda group. We just picked up a few around just before the release of Set 12. I'd like to say the free starter anniversary thing helped... I mean we did get 12 new players for that... but 4 of them were planning on playing anyhow, and two of them pretty much were already kinda playing. lol

I'd might have more if I could do Saturday's ever... which I really can't...

See you at Origins Shoe?

Hanover, PA

4 regular competitive players. 8 if you include casual players. 12 including the people who don't really play, but have a deck.

The most players we're likely to see is 10. That's if we have pretty much everyone turn out. Honestly it's usually 4-6 counting myself. We're lucky to get 8.

With summer here we're likely to be lucky to get 4, as several players are students and are "home" for the summer.

Used to have 8 on average but it's moved to 4-6. Hoping to get it to go back up.

hmm...

that's a toughy... I would say we have about 10 regular players, and then usually 3-5 of us can manage to get ourselves out to major events.

we also have something like 10 other casual players.

4-11 depending on work schedules/money issues.

Last night had 7 people show but only 4 play.

It has dropped off alot because of previous block, we used to have 12-18 almost every week. But with that last block, I lost almost everyone.

Janesville, WI

Recently we have had a pretty dramatic dropoff in player interest, and we get around 3-4 people that attend, but usually only 1 or 2 want to play in an event. The UFS players we had in the past still play, but they don't care about tournaments or competition anymore. They just want to have fun and mess around when they are in the UFS mood.

However, our playgroup will gain between 2 and 4 players once Tekken hits, since we have some regulars that are only interested in Tekken and no other license.
