Arkham Horror Quiz

By Stenun, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

I thought it might be fun to post some trivia questions about the game and see if anyone cared to post their answers happy.gif .

So I've put together 8 questions about Arkham Horror and I present them to you now for your entertainment. I stress the word entertainment, this is not a competition. There is no prize for being the person with the most right answers, it's just a bit of fun. Obviously, the element of fun disappears if you just go away and look up all the answers so you're on the Honour System to not look at any game components or any one else's answers until you've attempted this quiz yourself. The questions are all about the facts of the game, there are no questions about tactics or strategies - just the cards themselves. Or more specifically, the Ancient Ones and the Investigators ...

Remember, this is supposed to be a fun and hopefully challenging. If it's no fun, don't do it. If it's not challenging enough, let me know ... *evil grin*

I'll post the answers at a later date. Good luck!

1) Who is the only Ancient One with Magical Immunity?

2) When facing Hastur in a fight, what skill will you be rolling to fend off his attacks?

3) What's the penalty for failing a Lore check against Nyarlathotep?

4) Name all the Ancient Ones whose Worshippers are not Cultists.

5) Who is the only Investigator to start with three Fixed Common Items?

6) Who is the only Investigator to start with no money?

7) Whose "The Story So Far" text contains the following sentence: "Soon the Red Tide rises. Stay safe, my little girl"?

8) Name all the Investigators who have three different skills whose lowest printed score is 0.

One further point ... For the purposes of these questions, don't include any Innsmouth cards in your replies. The answers are all cards that have been released already.

  1. Yog Sohoth
  2. Luck (?)
  3. bye bye Clue token
  4. Aboth, Tsugauth, Ala-Nathca, Azathoth
  5. Wilson Richards, Wiskey, Motocrycle, Shotgun
  6. Sister Mary
  7. Wendy Adams (?)
  8. ?

A man after my own heart! Is there any way to hide these answers?

I'll give some of space so that people casually looking around or for one of them don't get them all at once.

1) Yog-Sothoth has Magical Immunity.

2) You defend against Hastur using Luck checks.

3) Lose one clue token when you fail Nyarlathotep

.

4) Shudde M’ell has Cthonians. Atlach Nacha has Leng Spiders. Shub Niggurath has Dark Young. Azathoth has Maniacs. Tsathoggua has Formless Spawn. Abhoth has no cultists, just Children. Yibb-Still has Nightgaunts.

5) Wilson Richards starts with a shotgun, motorcycle, and whiskey.

6) Sister Mary starts with $0.

7) Wendy Adams has that line in her backstory.

8) Another tough one. Joe Diamond has low Lore, Luck and Will. Ashcan Pete has low Speed, Luck and Lore. Harvey Walters has low Will, Fight and Speed.

Ha ha, this was fun. I managed to get 1, 3, 6, 7, and five if you count "That Handyman guy with infinite focus, and whose name I cannot remember."

You know, we should make this a 'thing'. "The Great Quiz!"

I've got a few more to add...

1. Name the character(s) whose backstory mentions a war.

2a. There are eight unique items tied for the cheapest cost among all unique items. Six of them are missions. Name the two that are not missions.

2b. Name the mission(s) not among the cheapest unique items.

3. Which two characters have identical stat placement and start in the same space?

The thought did occur to me *g*. I do something vaguely similar on some of the other message boards I frequent and I thought it might be fun to try something similar here. However it hasn't really gotten that many replies yet so I'm not so sure it's worth the time. I'll see what the response is like at the end of the week when I post the answers.

  1. Dexter, Mark
  2. a) Astral Mirror, King in Yellow b) For the Greater Good, Sacrifices to Make, Sealing the Beast Power, Walking the Weylines, Join the Winning Team, Purifying the Town
  3. Daisy, Mandy

I need to clarify my 2b. I only want the missions that are not of the cheapest value. There are six missions that cost the lowest value among unique items. I want the other ones.

One thing I've seen elsewhere to make quiz/trivia threads more active/exciting is that the first person to correctly answer a particular question gets to ask the next question.

For the Greater Good and Joining the Winning Team, as the missions that allow an immediate win, are the two that cost $3, I think.

I agree with Stenun, that sounds like good fun. Of course, we'd have to make a rule where after you answer, you go check the cards to make sure that you got it right before posting your question, or else we may run into some wrong answers. Not the end of the world, though.

As Arkham Horror players we are quite used to it by now.. every weekend the world is destroyd one way or another...

The answers ... !

Well done to everyone who got any right! :-)

>1) Who is the only Ancient One with Magical Immunity?

Yog-Sothoth

>2) When facing Hastur in a fight, what skill will you be rolling to fend off his attacks?

Luck

>3) What’s the penalty for failing a Lore check against Nyarlathotep?

Lose a clue token. If you have no clues left, you are devoured.

>4) Name all the Ancient Ones whose Worshippers are not Cultists.

Atlach-Nacha (Leng Spiders), Tsathoggua (Formless Spawn), Shudde M’ell (Cthonians), Shub-Niggurath (Dark Young), Yibb-Tstll (Nightgaunts), Azathoth (Maniacs)

>5) Who is the only Investigator to start with three fixed Common Items?

Wilson Richards (Motorcycle, Shotgun and Whiskey)

>6) Who is the only Investigator to start with no money?

Sister Mary

>7) Whose “The Story So Far” text contains the following sentence: “Soon the Red Tide rises. Stay safe, my little girl”?

Wendy Adams

>8) Name all the Investigators who have three different skills whose lowest possible score is 0.

“Ashcan” Pete (Speed, Lore and Luck), Harvey Walters (Speed, Fight and Will)

As for my questions:

1. Dexter and Mark both mention a war.

2a. The King in Yellow and the Book of the Believer both cost two dollars. 6 out of 8 missions cost that much as well.

2b. For the Greater Good and Joining the Winning Team are priced slightly higher, at 3 dollars apiece.

3. The investigators with identical stat placement are Gloria Goldberg and Jim Culver. They both start at Velma's Diner.

Perhaps there isn't much board-wise interest in this, but could those of us who are interested just do a continuing chain of questions on this thread? Somebody asks one question at a time, and somebody answers, asking a new one? I'll start. As stated above, check your answer so we don't get confused.

Are there any high (6+) stamina women? Who might they be?

The problem I have with the idea of someone posting a question and someone else posting the answer and the next question is that, as stated, you have to check your answer before you post it to make sure you get it right. Which kinda takes away the whole "quiz" element of it. It basically becomes an exercise in research.

So while I hope that those who participate in this venture do so honestly and enjoy themselves, I won't be taking part *g*.

Oh and flamethrower49 ... you should clarify whether or not your current question includes Innsmouth spoilers. happy.gif

Ok, then. It'll die quickly anyway. You had a good idea, in my book.

And sure. Innsmouth included.

Rita Young...think thats the only one... also their are no 6 fight ladies!

Rita Young, Diana Stanley and Lily Chen if you focus her that way.

Edit: Innsmouth spoilers included adds Zoey Samaras.

Which Rumor opens a Gate at the Cold Spring Glen?

Riots opens a gate at Cold Spring Glen!

Which ally will automatically join you in a certain Encounter, without you having to spend anything or pass any kind of skill check?

Which location in Dunwich can become closed for the rest of the game?

Which Other World has an encounter which can break one of your seals?

Which location encounter gives you an Elder Sign if you pass the very difficult Lore check?

How can you complete Joining the Winning Team with Yog-Sothoth as the AO?

Boy, I could keep doing this all day! But I better quit here if I want anyone to actually answer these. All questions were asked off the top of my head, with NO going back and looking at the decks.

Oh, cool. I can't answer all of them...

I suspect the first question has a Kingsport or CotDP answer. Is it William Bain? But I know you can get Earl Sawyer by adding a DH token and Professor Rice by adding a Doom token... which isn't paying anything in a technical sense.

We close Harney Jones's Shack all of the time.

You can possibly join Yog-Sothoth by taking the Messenger into Lost in Time and Space, or by getting the Cthulhu worship card in Ryleh. The rules about this particular scenario are somewhat vague.

I disagree. Yog-Sothoth's "devoured in LiTaS" condition is continual, not merely once when you go LiTaS. I think the only way to join Yog-Sothoth is to be Beloved of Bast; the Nine Lives card says you can't be devoured unless you so choose. This, I assume, would continuously operate against Yog-Sothoth's LiTaS effect.

Hence the vagueness of which I spoke. But your answer seems better than mine, anyway. Good job!

What is/are the most expensive common Item(s)?

How do you turn up Velma's Gratitude?

Which ally has a problem with the Dark Man of Wizard's Hill?

I know I'm speaking out of place here, but this thread's sinking anyway and I thought everyone might be interested...

There is at least one monster of each movement color whose name starts with the same letter. Which letter is it?

And no, it's not "T," even counting all the monsters whose names begin with "The" ;)

The Letter S.

Using Orange as my base, it had to be M or S. I started with M, because the Mummy and Mi-Go hit my head fastest, but I eventually ran out of steam at the Yellows. Then it took some brain-wracking because not all of them are used in every Cup. In order of rememberance:

Orange: Skeleton

Yellow: Spectral Horror (easy: one of my favorite pictures)

Red: Shoggoth (later, as I shook my skull, I stumbled into Skinless One, which led me to the last one...)

Purple: Star Vampire

Black: Serpent People (I remembered them first, then recalled Star Spawn, which led to Spawn of Glaaki, which then corrected to Servant of Glaaki)

Blue: Shan (hard!)

Green: Shadowy Figure (dirty trick, using the Masks!)

I'm not really good at coming up with the trivia, so instead I will present a challenge that COULD be a trivia question if I were clever enough to figure out the answer:

What is the maximum number of Closed boardspaces that can be in play at any time? Assume unlimited Closed Chits, any and all expansions in play, and any legitimate conditions and past boardplay allowed.
