In the Tattered Fates preview, Darke & Cougura's Living Shadow Show can be seen, this must be a reference to Darke's Carnival from Arkham Horror.

Found this thread while googling Darke & Cougura's (preparing to run Tattered Fates). Let's resurrect it!

I am not familiar with Arkham Horror. What is Darke's Carnival there?

I'm not familiar with Arkham Horror either, but the Darke & Cougura's Living Shadow Show sign (from the Quaddis Gazetter section of Tattered Fates ) is a reference to Ray Bradbury's classic novel Something Wicked This Way Comes , where 'Dark and Cougar's Pandemonium Extravaganza' carnival comes to town to steal people's souls...

-And another Lovecraftian reference that I'm surprised hat no one else has mentioned: the 'Starry Predaetoris' from Creatures Anathema is clearly based on The Hounds of Tindalos by Lovecraft contemporary Frank Belknap Long. The 'Order of Starry Wisdom' mentioned in that entry is also Mythos-inspired, based on a group from- I think- The Haunter of the Dark .

Regarding Cooger & Darke, I'm not surprised to see references to Ray Bradbury's October Country books either. As mentioned before Something Wicked This Way Comes is well worth reading along with From The Dust Returned and of course the eponymous October Country . Even though it's a children's book you could mine The Halloween Tree for the plot.

Does say 'when the stars are right" but that would be a little too obvious.

Also, cracked up when I read the silver key line.

Alternatively it could be inspired by Dagon instead.

I thought the blue chair was a reference to the first Men in Black - where Will Smith's character sits when he's late for the examination - but I can't find any indication of it being blue. It sounded like an inside joke in the fanfic already, though.

In our games "Jalla jalla" means full auto, and massed shotgunshots with scatter included are "fluffa fluffa".

I've been thinking about making an Adversary (a seemingly unaging mad scientist from an exotic non-Imperial culture) named Phuuman Tchu, as a nod to the famous pulp vilain Fu Manchu.
