Tattered Fates

By PearlChoco, in Dark Heresy

I've finally seen this book being sold in my favorite RPG store, and am tempting to buy it..
Any early reviews from the people who bought it already?

Still waiting for it in my area...::sighs::

Bought it direct from the FFG store, which I have had good experiences with up until now. But this time they waited two days before they shipped it... had I known they'd do that, would have bought it from the local store where it's now available and saved ten bucks. preocupado.gif Lesson learned for Radical's Handbook.

Picked my copy up today. So far, enjoyable and well put together. Physically masterful, if a touch on the small-side. Still worth it.

I really think I am going to have to read the King in Yellow soon as I can find myself a copy. Seems to be a few references throughout Dark Heresy to it, and I think I found what appears to be one more in Tattered Fates early on in my perusal of it's benighted pages. aplauso.gif

Got it in Friday and finished reading it.

Really good stuff. Congrats to the writing team and all at FFG! A truely twisted tale :)

Was amused by the outlines of the Commissar Yarrick figures as statues on the top floor of the manse of Gabriel Chase.

Cant wait to try it out on my players!

Copies of the King in Yellow are hard to find, to say the least.

It is a play, not a book, by the by.

Actualy, it is quite easy to FIND ;-)

And it is first and foremost a book... a book of short stories in the traditional gothic horror vein. The play, the King in Yellow is fictional and referenced within Chambers' stories. Everything that is known of the play, to my knowledge, comes from his short stories in the excepts, mostly from act I as act II will drive the reader insane.

And thus, the play is what is truly worth reading - not that Chamber's worth isn't worth perusing.

They say Quixos translated an ancient copy of the Book of Eibon...

Actually, The King in Yellow is a collection of short stories published in 1895 by Charles W. Chambers. The play itself was fictional, though there have been several attempts to produce complete copies by several persons along the way. And I can find several "electronic" copies, but they do not satisfy the way a good solid book does.

And it looks like Graver said much the same... So... lengua.gif

Awsome! I, for one, am glad to finally have some kind of idea of what to expect from this adventure. Much appreciated, thanks. aplauso.gif

So I bought Tattered Fates for Dark Heresy yesterday. Very nice looking book- full colour, hardback. The adventure looks good- a dreamlike mix of nightmarish hunts and opulent decadence and betrayal, very Masque of the Red Death vibe.

But it costs £19 and its 70 pages long.

70 pages!

I've seen longer free mods. It definitely fails the heft test. Its so thin that it dissappears when you turn it sideways. The hardcovers are thicker than the pages between them!

It’s a nice adventure, but I'm having trouble justifying value for money on this one.

Just a warning to those considering purchasing it sight unseen.

Orcs Nest here in London are selling it for £18.99 but, yeah, that price for that amount of pages means I won't be buying it. I realise the economy has gone to hell and this is a licenced property but £20 odd quid for 70 pages is not good value for money. Sorry FFG.

Not sure of the pound to canadian dollars difference, but at 24 bucks ( pocket change here...at least in MY pocket.) I'd say FFG has a definite sale with me! Hmm...12 beers or TATTERED FATES? Looks like I'll be GMing this weekend...and what the hell...I'll buy some beers for the gang on top of that!

Cheers!

Mmmmm. Beer AND Tattered Fates.

It's 25 USD so according to Google it should be around 29 CAD, so it's would be 14-15 beers.

Amazon US has it at $16, so it's defintiely a sale for me, not quite sure why it's more £ in the Uk than $ on Amazon though, that seems pretty insane.

My guess is the price on Amazon is wong, back of the book says 2495

Seems to be right, they have it at a 34% discount.

List Price: $24.95
Price: $16.47

My copy arrived in the post yesterday, bought from Amazon. I would have got it through FFG, but they proposed charging me £US35 postage!

My take on the book is that it's very good stuff. I must admit I'm still reading it, so can't do a full review, but I love the little Quaddis gazzetteer at the start. It's co-written by Alan Bligh, and I reckon his name is starting to become the gold seal of quality for DH stuff.

As for the beer/70 page RPG book debate, I live in London, where it costs £3.50 for a pint, so I'd only get 5 pints for it. Fortunately, I'm an eccentric millionaire, so I can go drinking AND afford the book.

Well North of England, £2.50 a pint so roughly 8 pints. Well I've ordered my copy from Leisure Games and I intend to spend the bank holiday weekend reading it and drinking far more than 8 pints of beer!!!

Wow, remind me never to go to Brittan -the beer for such a trip would break me! An here I thought the price of beer was getting a bit high over here in the states. For me, Tattered Fates is worth about 20 beers, 12 if I go for the good stuff which means I probably won't be picking it up for a long time if ever.

Which raises the question, dose it have any useful concrete information regarding the Haarlock line that hasn't been laid out in another book? Likewise, anything more on the Tyrant Star or the King in Rags and Tatters that's solid? That info would help my decision as to whether to shell out the 20 some-odd beers for 72 pages or not.

I am ordering mine from Amazon too. Has your's been sent yet?

I live in Norway and ordered it from FFG. The book cost me $24,95 and $35 for shipping, lol, making a total of $59.95!!!

This is 388,- norwegian kroner, or (in Norway) 7 beers at the pub. How do you like them apples? sorpresa.gif
