Clearing up the confusion

By Punning Pundit, in X-Wing

When I was a kid (I was born in March of 1978), I had Star Wars toys, and would go "pew pew pew" while holding them and waving my hands around. As I got older, I'd play with other kids, but when I said "you got hit", they'd go "nuh-uh!" and vice versa.

X-Wing is a game designed by people who are roughly my age, and who played with roughly the same toys I did, who want a way of making "nuh-uh!" go away. They want to play with awesome toys in a manner consistent with being awesome. "Awesome" in this case as defined by their inner 8 year olds.

Every now and then they remember that they can't just spend all day playing with those toys and going "pew pew pew", and they need to sell us the most awesome of those awesome toys.

Will there be toys from Star Wars Rebels? If those toys are awesome, and they can come up with an awesome way to fit it into the toy chest we already have. Will there be more Epic ships? Is the concept of "Epic X-Wing" "Awesome"? Yes. Therefore we will see more of it.

Why are we getting Scum an Villainy? Because those ships and toys were Awesome.

I know there are a lot of people who's view of Awesome is limited to the things that were shown on screen, in Episode's 4, 5, and 6- and only the first time those movies were in the theater. That's cool. I get it. I'd probably balk if My Little Pony were added to the game- it's not my concept of "Awesome".

But if the guys who gave me Porkins created a Pony faction, I'd at least take a look at it, you know?

Not sure if you've been keeping up with other threads but due to the nefarious c3po we may have to downgrade your "pew, pew, pew" to just "pew" and disallow nostalgia completely.

Obviously I jest but it is nice to read a positive post amongst the current doom and gloom. I have 4 years on you but echo your sentiments exactly!

c3po says NUH UHH.

=P

Correct thanks to 3P0 and the Falcon upgrade....along with a guess of 1 and a roll of 1...there is no "pew" to be had. I guess people will be complaining when FFG drops the upgrade that cancels Christmas!

I too and an OT child, born 1 month after the Original Star Wars hit theaters, and I love the fact I can show I hit you!

As the community currently stands, if it isn't well known, far too many rebel (no pun intended) against it. I would love to see FFG getting enough freedom to produce something completely new, or at the very least something so obscure that barely even the hardcore Star Wars fans would struggle to recognize it. In fact, that may be the only way to give the game the same type of longevity as other miniature games enjoy (like Warhammer and Warmachine).

That's ok...nostalgia is OP anyway.

Can we errata nostalgia?

I hope so

It's not _just_ the nostalgia for me. It's that these toys feel right. They work well together. They let me play with my friends and have awesome stories happen. It's those awesome stories that really make the game. I had a buddy running Soontir and Darth and I so very badly misplayed, and Darth couldn't roll a hit to save his life. The whole time we were making jokes about Darth being the epitome of being a bad boss- he was a useless waste of space (getting in Fel's way and doing all kinds of self-action-denial), but you just _knew_ Vader was gonna go home and tell the Emperor about what an awesome job he did with "his team" acting as "support".

That stuff is just fun.

And if you're running against C3PO Falcon and your opponent pops that ability, and you don't say "never tell me the odds", I just don't want to know you.

Surely a star wars quote is mandatory in all games! Maybe a tournament rule that to not use one means disqualification?

PEW! PEW! PEW!!!

I wish I could just play in a card board box like I used to when I were a youngling, I'd have so much money.

My pre-tournament ritual is to watch one of the movies so I can better quote during my games. It works really well.

George Lucas tried that.. it was not.. pretty.

It is sad just how much doom and gloom is around right now.

I am going to just fly casual and keep PEW PEWing on...

I like to use a sound board app that has tie engine sound fx and lasers as well as some music clips and a few quotes.

Wait so the Hobo had to sell his box to keep playing X-wing? **** that's hardcore man.

I heard of one tournament in this country that put a limit of how many Star Wars quotes allowed in an hour. I think it was three per game.

DOWN WITH THAT SORT OF THING!

I don't know man, if Rainbow Dash were added to the game, she'd have some amazing movement options, on top of literally nuclear ramming abilities. That and the sonic rainboom.

If that's not awesome, iunno what is.

Heh I was also born in March, 1978! When we were kids we would inevitably play either GIJOE or Starwars, and pew pew pew was THE sound effect used for lasers. I am still a child at heart. I spend too much time playing with my little spaceships. I still like to swing through the toy section of Walmart to see what's new. I always break out Star Wars quotes, even at the most inappropriate of times, I have used "You dont know the power of the dark side!" after being a champ under the covers. I cant wrap Christmas presents without taking the green and red wrapping paper and forcing my wife to have a lighsaber duel with me. (My god does that woman put up with a lot of ship). :)

So ya, Im fine with Scum and Villainy, and Huge Scum ships, and anything else FFG has come out with for this amazerful game.

PEW! PEW! PEW!!!

OMG I NEED THAT SHIRT

SECONDED!!

Y'know, for all the vitriol in certain threads, I still think this is one of the friendliest places on the 'net, with a very friendly fanbase that happens to have a few vocal naysayers and such.

I think this game is an answer to a long-winded prayer of mine that someone come along and create a Star Wars miniatures game that reflects the feel of the OT-era battles and is fast-paced. It fulfills all of those requirements, and it also gives me a bunch of really cool miniatures to go PEW PEW PEW with. :D Heck, it even has little stands I can stick between my fingers and swoop around! :D

OMG I NEED THAT SHIRT

My wife and I honeymooned in Disneyland a year ago. I was very tempted by _everything_ I saw. She actually kept telling me to just build and buy a lightsaber, already.

Manfully, I resisted most everything. Except the pins. I did go nuts with the pins. Got myself one of Mikey leading Rogue Squadron. And Darkwing duck. Because when there's trouble you call Dee Double You.
