Don't love it, personally. The technical work is very impressive - his blends are oustanding... but they don't actually make much sense visually. It's probably most glaring on his Y-wing - there's no reason for every panel on the nose to blend from dark to light and then jump back to dark at the edge of the next panel.

He seems to use the blends for their own benefit, rather than trying to create any reasonable lighting scheme. Technical is awesome... artistic is a letdown.

I've largely given up on minis painting (takes me too long) but I did take a class with Matthieu Fontaine at one point, which drilled the artistic side of things into my brain. Technical work is all well and good if that's what you're looking at, but the overall effect of the piece is just... wrong. I can't make sense of why the panels are lit like they are, so the whole thing feels discordant to me.

I think the effect would look quite a lot better if the painter had gone with chipping solution to produce it.

As it is, it just looks like a really lazy and unattractive ink job.

He's got a great deal of talent, I just wish he used more color variety in his X-wing stuff.

And here I thought everyone would go 'What a fabulous paintjob!'. Just goes to show how varied everyones opinions are. Of course, those of you who do not think the model is great are clearly wrong and should defer to my opinion. * Wink, wink. Nudge, nudge.*

Painting miniatures as I learned is giving them characker, expression and let them life. Technikal these stuff is at a very high level. If the miniature lives is each ones personel feeling. What I dislikes is the weathering (too mich rust) and the scratches (too big and overdone). It feels wrong in this size. But from the technikal aspekt this is great work. I love the colour transitions very much. The Y Wing is the best of his x Wing ships. I enjoy it most.

I've really got to agree. There are a lot of mini painters that have developed great blending skills, often using airbrushes. And whilst I appreciate the technical level being displayed, the model itself is not actually good. The worst example of this that I have seen is on some Flames of War tanks. Every panel was blended like this and not an ounce of dirt was visible. Technically it was an amazing effort. Visually it was terrible and if the model was given to me, I would have dumped it in simple green and repainted it myself at an inferior level technically but with a more appealing visual.

This paint job gives the B-Wing a very organic waspy look. The Vors might like this one.

I think most of the comments agree that the technical side is very good, so comments like 'need to study more' are a bit unnecessary. But even if perfectly done, people can still not like it visually, including me.

I'm not denying the skill shown but that ( IMO ) is really ugly. Brilliant painting ability but.......

Edit: I don't like saying bad things about other peoples painting but as said before you can be impressed with a thing but not like that thing all the same. Eg: I don't like Monet but you can't deny he has great skill.

its a 'tidy' job of making something look 'messy' but it doesnt suit the B wing.

it's supposed to be a new fighter in the galactic civil war.. this on say a YT1300 would be epic but its a bit like too much on too small a model.

Makes it look like it should be a ship in the scum faction.

I also think that its a lot of very compentent work on the paint scheme while leaving the model in the *awful* static pose it comes out of the box in. IMO the worst bit about the b wing model is actually its pose. The paint job from factory is lovely and needs nothing doing to it... in contrast the factory paint on the Y wing is dire and really washed out.. and not in a good 'faded' through use way... in a 'the pigment in the paint is not strong enough way'

I've shown these before but here is my B wing with no work done on the paint job but the cockpit repositioned to allow it a more 'dogfight' pose and my Y wings... on those i've deepened the contrast between the grey and yellow and put a little grime on the yellow. This IMO not only makes them look more like the film ones but also makes the very 'flat' sculpt of the Y wing (possibly the worst sculpt in the game tbh and its a shame as i love Y wings) less noticable.

Im not saying my paint job is better, he's clearly a better painter than me but i think the difference to the model (in both cases) is more significant.

Not too bad a look, I think far too contrasty for the scale. Looks very simple to do, just airbrush brown ink over the ships with a bit of masking for that stop start effect. You can see all the original markings are still there. Odd that all the ships ended up with blue engines but I guess it contrasts with the rust colour.

Again, technically impressive, but the style looks like something that would suit an undead creature for a fantasy game rather than a spaceship.

Interesting that some of you seem to think the style doesn't fit a space ship. That go me thinking, would his take on the Millenium Falcon be better recieved?
