Experimental Interface

By Zoccola, in X-Wing

Seems that a lot of people have embraced this upgrade but have not read it very carefully. It is not a PtL upgrade.

Experimental Interface says the following: Once per round, after you perform an action, you may perform 1 free action from an equipped Upgrade card with the "Action:" header. Then receive 1 stress token.

So in order to use it, you need to have an equipped card that has an Action on it.

Currently there are only 9 cards that this works with:

Expert Handling EPT

Squad Leader EPT

Daredevil EPT
Marksmanship EPT
Expose EPT
Leebo Crew
Saboteur Crew
Lando Crew
Proximity Mines Bomb
Conversely, PtL does not work with these upgrades. (For most it will only become an issue on A-Wings with 2 EPTs).

It works with droids as well.

R7-T1 can bump up to three actions! Also R2-F2 becomes more useful (increase agility and focus). R5-D8 can repair and do something else.

It's an order of operations thing. You have to do the Action Bar action first with EI, and second with PTL. A lot of upgrade cards add an action to the Action Bar, so they are not going to qualify for EI, despite rules lawyers wishing so.

Forgot the droids too ! Good catch. Best use for this I think would be on Tycho

Tycho + PtL + Refit + EI + AWTP + Expert Handling

Thats barrel roll + boost/focus/evade/tl + boost/focus/evade/tl

Fleet Officer is also missing from the list.

Vorpal Sword has a whole topic dedicated to EI and expose: http://community.fantasyflightgames.com/index.php?/topic/113032-expose-experimental-interface/

Squad Leader, as Vorpal suggested in another thread, has some interesting implications as you're giving a ship the effect of PtL but the stress is going to a different ship while still leaving the recipient's EPT available.

And someone suggested throwing it on Soontir giving him more diversity in EPT's such as Marksmanship.

Han Solo crew

Han Solo crew

... has no action involved.

Maybe it will make the poor Maarek Stele a bit more desirable, by comboing it with Marksmanship. But it further increases it cost, and the stress limits pretty hard its maneuverabillity.

I truly feel sorry for him. It's a pilot I'd love to fly more often, but he is totally outdated and outclassed by the meta. And when I look at what FFG did with its 'mirror pilot' Keyan Farlander, my blood boils.

Advanced TIEs do really need a TIE ADV-X2 title. Yesterday, if possible.

Yep, that's what I get for going from memory. For some reason I was thinking both he and Lando did. Nope, just Lando.

I'm going to quietly put this out in a thread that hasn't gotten much attention. It'll be our secret.

Tycho + PTL + Daredevil + Refit + Experimental Interface. 33 points and can do maneuvers no other ship in the game can. You can do a 1 hard, then focus, then boost, then one hard. It has you pointed back at what you started, just like Echo can. Or you can one hard, daredevil back the other way and boost, offsetting your movement. Three bank, then boost, then daredevil and you can end up behind an oncoming ship.

I may have to get screenshots of all the super crazy maneuvers you can do.

"Be vewy vewy qwiet, we is hwunting wascly impewials!"

How about a heavy M3-A, EI, Marksmanship, and APT. If you can get it within range 1 of a priority target, you take the TL, use EI to activate Marksmanship, and get a minimum dice result of a crit and two hits from the APT. With the spoiled PS8 pilot, it adds up to 34 points.
