I thought the correct term was "dampers". Basic electrical & mechanical engineering textbooks talk all about "damping", not "dampening".
Inertial "Dampeners"?

I'm hoping they fix it, the comic that the card's based on even uses "dampers".

Maybe it literally makes the ship damp.

Well the two words are pretty much interchangeable grammatically if you are talking about reducing the effects of something.
Damping and Dampening, Dampers and Dampeners.
I hadn't noticed that before: You can do a 0 move then an action, hide behind an asteroid perhaps?
Interesting.
I don't think you get your action after using the dampers? Or ... ?
Wouldn't think so. Maybe an ability that triggers immediately after a maneuver?

not unless you have some way of getting rid of the stress right away.I don't think you get your action after using the dampers? Or ... ?
Nope, doesn't work. The reason the card defines it as a white maneuver is so you can do it while already stressed, giving you a second stress token. If you are not already stressed, you still receive the stress right after performing the maneuver, just like if you were to perform a K-turn. Not to say there isn't a card that would allow this, but we have not seen a Scum and Villainy compatible card that can remove or redirect that stress immediately. So, there is currently no way to perform an action after using the dampers.

I missed that it was an illicit upgrade and so only scum can use it. I was thinking you could relieve the stress with Yorr or some such.
I remember playing the Starfighter game back on the old pc. First mission was a race in your N-1. I was just a kid, and not the best pilot. Crash into something just a bit, and the pilot is yelling at the astromech, "Wrench! Adjust dampers!"
So yeah. Dampeners is weird. Still a cool card though. I'm gonna need another upgrade book.

Seems like Advanced Sensors would still work, though, since it technically triggers before you reveal your maneuver. So you could do an action, then reveal, then play Dampers.
Only problem, of course, is that no Scum ship that I'm aware of has a Systems slot...

The Virago title for the StarViper grants a system, and the IG-2000 has a system icon. Good catch!
"Dampener" may not be preferred, but it is at least grammatically correct, and has been used in sci-fi before.
