[HOUSERULES] EvilE's House of Rules

By evileeyore, in General Discussion

Okay, I've been flapping my yap so here's the thread in which I'll be talking about the houserules for my upcoming campaign...

For now, this is sort of a placeholder thread. I'm still pushing things around on my plate, seeing what gels together. Also while I invite feedback (actually I want feedback), I'm not interested in Ye Olde Gem: "Just try the RAW, you'll like it!"

These rules are gonna be hard baked, deep fried, and crispy when I'm done.

Rule 1 - Lightsaber Skill

Edited by evileeyore

Rule 1 - Lightsabers use Melee as their skill and have no Attribute without a Form. Taking a Form gives you an Attribute to use with Melee. In all cases that say "Lightsaber skill" replace with "Melee". This only applies (obviously) when wielding a Lightsaber.

Rule 1b - Taking any Lightsaber Specialization Tree grants the 0 cost Shii-Cho Technique.

Talent Tree Simple Form:

Shii-Cho Technique: When making a check using the Lightsaber skill, the character may use Brawn.

Long Form:

Shii-Cho Technique

Activation: Passive

Ranked: No

Trees: Ataru Striker, Makashi Duelist, Niman Disciple, Shien Expert, Shii-Cho Knight, Soresu Defender,

Force talent. When making a Lightsaber skill check, the character may use Brawn.

Discussion:

Why zero cost? Because I decided it was easier. No real other reason. Also it should (in my mind) be 5 EXP, but that means some weird "5th" line thing... so this Talent sorta sets up above the top and doesn't get in the way of taking the first tier Talents.

Why bother? Yes, Shii-Cho is the base Form, built directly off of Melee... but the other Forms were derived from this ancestor. The other forms all have Melee roots. In my mind this also best represents the Lightsaber Masters being bad-ass melee dudes. Obi-Wan getting jiggy with and Electrostaff, various EU things, etc.

EDITTED: Whacky formatting got injected from somewhere.

It doesnt make any sense at all.

On one hand, it gives a narrative answer to explain a gap in the rules.

On the more rational hand, it is turning 1 line into 5 because, "internet".

On the gripping hand, it gives no benefit except to confuse your players.

I'll grant it's "adding" something F&D 'doesn't' need. However as my Players do not have ready access to F&D, and the rules in EotE and AoR are wonky - No actual Lightsaber Skill, high Brawny no melee characters can use a Lightsaber better than low Brawn high Melee skill characters? Err wut? Are they really swinging it "harder"? This gives the "edge" back to those with "skill".

Also, the lore out right states Shii-Cho was built off of good old fashioned swords and used "ancient" swording techniques, making it inferior to the later styles (reflected in FGG SW by the newer Forms getting access to more Lightsabering Talents).

Changing a rule cause Internet is a poor way to do things. If you do not have a clear goal for changes you end up with crappy rules.

Seems to me like a lot of extra rules for something that's already covered by much simpler rules. But whatever works at your table, I suppose.

DILLIGAF

I don't usually put people on ignore because very little actually annoys me, but I am tempted to with you. Someone who wants something for nothing, feels entitled to it just because he doesn't agree with how it is marketed, feels the need to come on here bragging about that while criticizing the company and then wants to "share" his houserules for help which seem to amount to rules for rules sake in a game you have no actual investment in. I'd say good luck with that, but I'd be lying.

I like the lightsaber being it's OWN skill the rules as they are is good.

I'm not sure what problem this house rule is trying to solve.

Maybe stick with the RAW, they're good? :P

Maybe stick with the RAW, they're good? :P

Maybe they should try Raw before deciding they need changed.

Or at least buy the book so they can know for sure :)

Frankly it sounds like he's trying to fix a problem only he has with how the current rules operate based upon his own extremely biased perceptions.

But then with something as potentially contentious as Force users in general and Jedi in particularly, it's bound to happen. Not every idea is going to be a winner after all.
