Order 66 Podcast on F&D (Lead Designer Discussion)
I listened to the thing and jotted it down. It wouldn't be that big a deal.
You seem to have a lot of free time
I liked the bit on modding Lightsabers. Sam mentioned maybe alternatives to mechanics for modding sabers. Maybe let people use the Lightsaber skill? On one hand, it lets a skill do double duty. On the other hand, how many lightsaber crystals is a character going to mod over the course of play? Maybe a few, but probably not many. It seems like plenty of Jedi that weren't mechanics were still able to make some pretty potent lightsabers. I think part of the problem is that with other weapons, the mods are more spread across multiple attachments. With lightsabers, almost all the mods are tied to the crystal attachment.
I didn't like the suggestion that the duelist training talent be something that you can turn on/off. If that's the case, it will be on when it is a benefit and off when it is a penalty. The other option would be to make it last an entire scene/encounter. That doesn't make much sense because someone who knows multiple forms could simply switch in the middle of a fight. It's not like a lightsaber form is something that you switch on, then wait 5 minutes for it to run its cycle. Even for people that aren't masters of multiple forms, I don't buy that becoming better at facing a single opponent necessarily makes you worse at facing multiple opponents. I like what it's trying to convey. I think the specialization as a whole conveys that well enough by not providing any talents that enhance combat with multiple foes, such as Sarlacc Sweep or Saber Swarm.
I did it just to be nice because I knew this was a big one. I don't even like the podcast honestly, too long winded. Maybe the people who listen routinely could be nice too.

You're welcome, and thank you.

They could just leave it as a boost vs a single opponent. It would still mean that you are better when facing off in a duel and "worse" if fighting multiples (you wouldn't get the boost)
Just make it a maneuver to activate or deactivate the talent. Then turning it on or off becomes an excercise in resource management.

And in a way, it becomes even worse than it already is. Other forms don't get setback dice when facing off against a single opponent. Why single out Makashi for turning its advantage into a simultaneous weakness? Perhaps they should make it a ranked talent that removes setback dice from lightsaber checks when engaged with a single opponent.
Edited by MrBaldwinI don't know anything about the lore of these specific lightsaber forms. Where would one go to learn that stuff? Chris and Phil seemed to have a deep familiarity with "That's so Makashi", etc.
Anyway, they seemed to imply that was the nature of the form. That it was stronger versus one opponent and weaker versus many.
Well, this thread definitely motivated me to donate to the latest Order 66 Kickstarter.

I would debate that, simply because lightsaber forms were always fairly nebulous in their specifics, at least based on what we see. Sure, we see Dooku and Obi-wan assume certain poses, but the details tend to get jumbled in the choreography. Plus, anything written on the lightsaber forms comes from EU that was rendered moot by Disney.
Also, weaker is relative. Makashi could be weaker against many relative to other forms simply because practicing it doesn't make you any better against multiple foes than you already were.
Finally, it's a weak talent that isn't worth taking.

Since GM Phil has joined they've revamped the podcast so that the meat of the show is so much sooner. I enjoy listening to the show all the way through at least once and then the meat over and over again to let stuff sink in. I think Chris and Phil have some good dynamics going on. Btw, anyone know when the Beta will be for sale?

Ditto, 2P51! Thanks!

Yah, since I only listen while commuting, I really appreciate that. The Q&A is very good, and I usually listen all the way into the post-show if it doesn't get too mundane.
Was I the only one who heard something that sounded very much like someone smoking a bong in the last two epsiodes???

GM Chris smokes an e-cig.
Ok, makes sense... Although a bong would have been a lot cooler!

Thankfully his doesn't whistle like my wife's vape pen. That thing sounds like a dog whistle every time she take a draw. That would certainly make some people shut off the the cast.

Try doing it while actively participating in the interview while never losing your train of thought. Not easy for some of us, and I'd rather worry about being interesting to listen too.
Austin does a good job with his timestamping, when he's able to get to it.

Considering that FFG is drawing heavily from the EU/Legends, I wouldn't discount it so quickly as "rendered moot".
The Lightsaber forms are nicely summarized in "The Jedi Path" book, and extensively on Wookieepedia. I even did a 7-part look at them for the final episodes of the SAGA-edition of the Order 66 podcast. Maybe I should get them linked somewhere...

I've got enough for my mental bandwidth to handle, and I'm not running the sound-board.

How about inviting a scribe into the interview to sit and do that, or just listen to it after it's done and do it.

You mean "nap time"?
I get what you're saying, I do. Might be something to look into.
Phil I have a few other ideas on ways you could use your time too. Just in case you need suggestions.
But seriously, no offense to Dave, but I have enjoyed O66 a lot since you have been doing it. Thanks for all the effort and work!

I figure you guys have a script or list of questions you like to ask and have covered. Just have an interview clock running and when you ask your question jot down the time you did and let Sam talk. Next question, next time notation. I don't think it needs to be anymore complex than that honestly.
