Hey everybody, I had an issue where a friend of mine stepped on a Y-Wing which now the peg insert is stuck in the ship but the peg it was attached to snapped off. I tried gluing it to its peg but it keeps coming undone. Does anybody have any suggestions on what to do with something like this? For right now I've pretty much just been laying the ship on the base itself, but I'm hoping there's some alternatives that other people have thought up... thanks in advance!
Tips for broken Ships
Absolutey, reach out to customer support for FFG; I would be shocked if they didn't help you out. The FFG customer service is awesome from what I've seen and heard.
Edited by ZarynterkI would ask FFG for an extra peg but to get the remaining piece out when my ship snapped, I used a pin drill and then glued a pinning rod into the nub and pulled it out
You might be able to jimmy the peg fragment out by using the point of an X-Acto knife. (Wear protective eyewear.)
Otherwise, you can superglue the peg fragment in place, and superglue the broken peg in place permanently too, making sure that the peg is situated properly when the ship+peg is attached to the base. I did this with an A-Wing and it works fine.

Thank you to everyone with the suggestions so far! Barriecritzer, I've heard that before, what would you do with the magnets?
I would try the magnets, if you look through the forums there are some good step by step instructions on how to do it. and its pretty cheap (like less then a buck to buy)
You have two options..
Get a 'gimble' mount system, a ball bearing and a donut magnet (rare earth has them) depending on how you wanna mount them, you can put the donut either on the peg, or the ship, and then the bearing on the other. ( I am in process of this , I am insetting bearings in TIE fighters and advanceds. The donut magnets will be mounted on the pegs..
Or use 3mm x 1 or 2mm magnets and mount them or inset them in the ships and then mount on the pegs.
The flat magnets will just give the same old thing with the ships.. the gimble mount lets you put them in diving or banking type positions for fun aesthetics.
Thank you Oneway, I'm going to check that out. That'd be cool and something different
Heat a pin over a flame or candle and when it's hot enough, stick it into the plastic. Let it cool down then pull it out. It should bring the plastic along with it. For better "purchase," don't stick it in dead perpendicular, but maybe at a 5-degree angle so that when you pull DOWN, you aren't necessarily just pulling the needle out.
Hope that made sense.
You're very welcome. I tend to just remove the post in the ship and drill a little into the model and countersink the flat magnets, and with the new set up I just got, I'm countersinking bearings.. probably post a thread on it in a few days. I have a repainted advanced and ln I am going to do as well .. kind of an experiment, but if I like it I may do it on all my TIEs..
The top part of the peg is stuck in the hole on the bottom of the ship, right, where you plug the peg in (I can see others calling it a post)? This has happened to me twice.
What I do is snap that whole part off and glue the broken shaft straight to the model. It sticks far better.

Can I ask you to do a thread with pictures? Really interested in this one! I put magnets on my bigger 40K units to swap out weapons, would like to see how you do it on X-Wing models!

I can try, I already have the bearings in the models and magnets on the stands as well.I will be doing a couple more though so I will be able to give it a try lol not used to doing those so we'll see how it turns out.
It's a simple process though, I promise.
This just happened to me last night.

Pics of either WIP or done models would be good, but both would be better!

That is sweet! Can you pick the models up by holding the X-Wing and the base goes with it? I see there **MIGHT** be a problem keeping the ships pointed forward though.
I might try a cylinder magnet on the stand and maybe two rectangles on the mini to at least keep the ship pointing forward.
Tor remove the broken piece assuming that you don't want to go down the magetising path, get a pin vice and small drill bit. Drill into the broken off piece slowly and you should be able to get enough friction to pull it out.

Yes you can pick the model up from the ship. The bases of my ships are even weighted with a washer and the filled with black silicon. The weight to the bases allows me to quickly tilt or rotate the ships. Yes the set up I use will allow the ships to point other directions besides straight.
