Mission's or Scenarios

By RavenX2000, in X-Wing

Hello new player here.

We will be playing our first game this wednesday. Bought too many ships as per usual for a starter. However when I was going over the rules the first thing that struck me was only 3 missions/scenarios.

I find this kind of a shock when this game has been around some time now and well, there are so many cool ideas you could do with this. But appereantly from my search-fu those 3 are the only official ones.

So question is why? I know the game looks fun in dog fighting mode. But why not take advantage from certain missions or possibilities. And deepen the game out instead of just firing at each other all day.

A mission or scenario book would be awsome.

Welcome to the game!

Each of the large ship expansions comes with a new mission, and the huge ships have 3 or 4.

There are a bunch of fan-made missions. Check this thread at BoardGameGeek:

Here are some missions and variant rules I've created:

Yeah as awesome as it would be for more official missions and such I think it's honestly a blast to recreate missions from different Star Wars events, like for Example you could be like yeah Dark Forces, and then have the HWK being piloted by Jan with Kyle as a crew member maybe with a small escort against TIEs as they try and get the death star plans to the Rebels, followed by an attack on the Tantive 4 by the Empire, followed by the death star escape with Chewie piloting the falcon against 4 or so TIEs, and then the death star run, and then envision the bounty hunters attacking Han over Ord Mantell, the escape from Hoth, the Falcon escaping Hoth with TIEs and Bombers and a moving asteroid field, then Boba Fett trying to escape Cloud City with an imperial escort, and then shadows of the Empire you could have Lando and Dash try to attack Boba in Gall with his imperial escort, followed by the big 3 way battle with the Empire, Prince Xizor's fleet, and the Rebels, and then Return of the Jedi you have the Death Star 2 run. I'll be honest I tried a couple of the scenarios but I have much more fun creating my own scenarios and going with it.

Right now I'm working on a scenario in my head where one faction is attacking a facility of another faction. I figure there's 3 docking bays with random ship cards under each docking bay, one faction is attacking the facility with 200 points to spend. They have to blow up the 3 docking bays and whatever ships remain. Basically the facility faction spawns random ships (from the random cards under each docking bay) out of the docking bays, they start off with a 50 point sentry squad and every other turn they could potentially spawn ships from the docking bays OR they can wait a turn and place a mod of their choice on the ship in the docking bay to further prep it for battle, but the longer they wait the more damage the opposing faction can really do to a docking bay. I want to try it out and work out some details like how many Hit points per docking bay to even it out and how far away each docking bay should be from each other. (Thinking a triangle with each being the distance of a range ruler) but I haven't tried it out yet so not sure of the balance.

Either way, the point of my post... it's a blast to really use your imagination and come up with scenarios to try out.

My favorite mission is the one that comes with Imperial Aces. I highly recommend that one.

Bought too many ships as per usual for a starter.

No. That's simply not possible to do. :)

Enjoy the game!

I almost threw the booklets out without watching it thought it was advertisement xD. but indeed there are mission in them.

Off and on (and currently off, because my job is being demanding) I've also been working on an online campaign engine, which will feature a varying set of missions, each next mission depending on the outcome of the previous. The huge ships also have very simple versions of this idea (minus the online part, and minus random effects).

In other words, there is definitely some creativity out there for creating stories and playing matches with narrative stakes and constraints. However, the 6-asteroid-100pnt-Death-Match is by far the dominant mode of play.
