Excited for Organized Play

By bayruun, in Star Wars: Armada

I'm not a tournament player for the most part. I've been to a few Warhammer, Warmachine, and Infinity competitions, but I'm usually there just to play the game.

However, I got pretty into Babylon 5: ACTA, and I feel like another big-ship game will get me similarly excited. Anyone else looking forward to bringing their leviathans to slug it out in a tournament?

I hope we will see some tournaments too. Casual play with your buddies is fun but every once in a while its good to have a good ole fashioned competition and the excuse to spend the vast majority of a day playing a game!

SW: Armada is perfect for tournaments.

I don't have a single doubt that we will be having tournaments as soon as next summer... Assuming that Wave 1 and Wave 2 ships are also released. (and if not, we can have fighter squadrons duke it out without any capital ships!) :D

I haven't gone to a tournament yet for the other games I play, but maybe Armada would sway me.

I guess I am a little bit afraid of tournament settings, primarily because I am afraid I will mess up and commit some unspeakable crime that tournament players abhor. I'm not saying such crimes really exist, just that my fear revolves around them. I don't want to mess up rules all the time and look like an idiot either.

My concern will be game length they say that "experienced players" will still take 2 hours to play so if we get 2hr 15 min rounds each round will essentially last 2.5hrs as scores are calculated and tables assigned. Meaning 7.5hr days (that's only 3 rounds larger events having 4+ rounds even longer).

Granted with the cost of the game it probably won't get quite to the size and popularity of X-wing Tournaments requiring more swiss rounds/a cut to the top, but it will still probably need a more robust tie breaking/ranking system than what X-wing uses. (I.E. maybe more than just Match win, modified win draw loss+MoV tie break) Hopefully this is where the Objective system can help, and we don't know for sure all of the rules, and whether the game will really take that long or go faster but that is just my initial impressions.
