Will the upcoming official releases of Wave Five and the Rebel Aces pack, with all of their essential "anti-swarm" options, change the way you're building your squads? If so, how? If not, why?
Formation Flying and Range One
Change is hard, so I doubt we'll see too much of it.
Likely, lists will develop into (dedicated loner) and a mini swarm, to keep the best of both worlds.
I was not much for eight tie swarm formation flying to begin with. I've always had more luck with 6 tie mostly named swarm so they can get 1 round of howl on engagement and then decend again for more. You can still do that but have to fly better and likely only get 2-3 in bonus range... Now you have to make them count.
Mini swarm is already a thing...efficient, effective, deadly. New options make that "loaner" pretty potent.
I have played with the mini swarm and the six TIE swarm with only Howlrunner as a named pilot. The rest are Black Squadron's equipped with Predator or Outmaneuver. For awhile I had Darth Vader as my loner equipped with an Engine Upgrade. Now I use the Phantom "Echo."
I have been developing less swarm tactic lists since the release of the Defender and the Phantom. Once Scum and Villainy comes out the Defenders will become even better because of the new cannon upgrades (assuming they are worth while).
The meta my slightly change, instead of a four TIE mini swarm, maybe a three mini swarm to get an extra loner ship.
Hell no,
To all my opponents, please, PLEASE take Ion Torps, because slowing down my TIEs is a GOOD thing for me.
