3 Ship Imperial Squad

By Moore84, in X-Wing

Spin off of the list that took GenCon...

Soontir Fel - 27

Royal Guard TIE - 0

Push the Limit - 3

Stealth Device - 3

Hull Upgrade - 3

Whisper - 32

Veteran Instincts - 1

Advanced Cloaking Device - 4

Fire Control System - 2

Captain Yorr - 24

Yorr seems kind of pointless here. You don't want his ability to take stress tokens from Soontir, as that prevents him getting his Focus token, and you don't really want either fighter constrained by trying to stay in range of the shuttle. Thus, since his ability won't do much of anything, Yorr is basically an OGP with a 3-point Veteran Instincts. Better to just take a Doom Shuttle for the same cost, which can then hand out criticals to ships that Soontir and Whisper have taken shields away from.

Can you explain what transforms a Lambda into a "Doom Shuttle"??

The base Shuttle with Darth Vader crew. Add other things as you like, but the base build is pretty effective.

Certainly: stick Darth Vader on it. Once Soontir, Whisper and the Shuttle's natural 3 attack have taken care of the enemy's shields, you can then sacrifice 2 of the Shuttle's health to force a critical onto whatever it attacks. Fantastic for crippling or (best case scenario) finishing off enemy targets.

Good call on the Doom Shuttle! Def making that change! Thanks!

I know it's not whisper, but it still has Super Soontir, an arc dodging phantom, and Vader which can be a pain in the ass to deal with. The Predator on Vader means he gets to reroll half his dice and greater chance of eyeballs/hits.

I think one of the main reasons Yorr is in the winning list is because it was intended to be a counter to other Phantom lists with Rebel captive in them.

Incidentally as Yorrs stress taking range is 1-2 that’s actually quite a large area to be within for your phantom and interceptor.

It allows Phantoms with ACD to perform K-Turns without shutting down ACD for the turn, you can also let Soontir take a K-Turn and still perform actions like focus, push, evade get stress get focus.

Yorr is actually quite versatile in this list compared to Doomshuttle

I think I would run this if I needed Vader...

Darth Vader - 29

Daredevil - 3

Engine Upgrade - 4

"Whisper" - 32

Veteran Instincts - 1

Advanced Cloaking Device - 4

Fire Control System - 2

Captain Yorr - 24

I think I combined the 2 list while posting the one above earlier but anyways this turns Vader into a pseudo "Echo" with Daredevil

Vader is just such a poor return on investment. Dark Curse is also a pain to kill off at 16 pts and with the remaining 17 points you can add Mauler.

Just going to point out (again) that the above list is very similar to what won Nationals at Gencon this year.

I do like Dark Curse as one of my main fillers but have been falling in love with Night Beast a lot.

Vader is already a pain to deal with now they have daredevil on him with Yorr to remove stress...have fun getting out of/into firing arc

Cause I could never imagine wanting to K-Turn Soontir...remove that stress....then let him Focus and PtL to Evade thus giving him another Focus and being in a good position on the table.

To the OP, you built this squad up to 99, where Rick had it down to 97 to insure initiative, because it is essential for Whisper to fire first to trigger Advanced Cloaking Device. Also Gunner on Whisper for him worked great, default action, take Evade, attack, hit or miss, FCS kicks in, Gunner triggers on miss, use the fresh lock, gain another, hits guaranteed, gets free Focus, gets free Cloak. Worked great for him.

I see what you are doing though, you want a little more padding on Soontir. Rather than eating into the Initiative bid, reduce the points on the filler. What Yorr is doing other than being a Stress sponge, (which can be used to great effect btw, but sometimes never comes up), as well as playing mop up. He also gives your opponent a soft target to go after. Doom shuttle is a great closer, but Stress sponge can be even more useful if it can keep up. I like to use Mauler Mithel with Wingman, it really opens up Soontir's dial every turn so he can do whatever the hell he wants all day long. I also prefer to spend those 6 pts on Shield Upgrade so he can blow off a Crit that slips through and add Targeting Computer to make those 4 attack dice really pay off when they need to.

TL:DR 97>99; Doomshuttle/Yorr is the filler in this squad

NB is my second favorite tie after Backstabber.

Both together are some of the best 31pts you can spend in imperial.
