Archive 13

By Simon Retold, in Game Masters

I was just daydreaming and thought, "What happens if we mash up Star Wars and Warehouse 13?" Have the players control agents for Archive 13, an ancient storehouse of strange artifacts from the history of the galaxy, some maybe even predating the Republic or the Jedi themselves. The Archive is the thirteenth such storehouse, newly created when Archive 12 was threatened and sealed. It's overseen by RT-NL7, a droid with control issues, who answers to an enigmatic humanoid being (of the same species as Tiplar , I think... or maybe a Neti) named Ri'ferni Creed.

It would definitely start out as an artifact hunt game, but could progress into a number of directions, including stopping threats to the Rebellion (or the Empire) as the Archive demands, defending the Archive, seeking past, sealed Archives for specific artifacts needed to solve certain problems, and so on.

Right now, I'm only teasing the idea around in my head, but who knows? Do you have any thoughts on the mash-up? I'd love to hear 'em!

If you dig deep enough, there is plenty in Star Wars lore that could make for a Warehouse 13 (or at least what they had in Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark.) The Mindharp of Sharu, some statue of a child that nearly destroyed Corusuant, the zilobeast, various jedi and sith artifacts. Also, if I recall correctly, Uncle Palpy had quiet a few stash around the Empire that stored these sort of things (Naboo, Byss, and Wayland come to mind) and could start as a base to the campaign.

That's a great idea!

I might borrow parts of that idea for my current campaign, which is all about exploration and ancient artifacts!

I've only seen a couple of episodes of the TV show, but the concept is strong on its own and could make a great campaign.

So some questions to consider would be is the archive Imperial based, and if it is is it only known to a select few Imperials? This would effectively make the PCs agents of the Empire.

Or is the archive maintained by a different group, such as perhaps a former Jedi Knight who has amassed this collection in the hopes of keeping the Galaxy a little more at peace.

Or, maybe it's someone who says they have good intentions but intends on using the items to help him rule the Galaxy.

Don't forget that there are plenty of insanely rich people out there that are "eclectic collectors" and are almost "untouchable" due to their wealth. Some of them are just collecting, while others have...other reasons for doing what they do.

It might be fun to think of it that way, as it could be a government agency (Republic that is still unknowingly supported by the Empire?), provided for by criminal activity (Black Sun, anyone?), or just exists as a standalone for all of this time. . .

There's quite a bit of the unexplained material in Star Wars (like swiftdraw mentioned above), but there's a lot of different bits of technology and mundane objects that are either kept due to their capabilities, reputation, history, or even because no one knows how they work.

Someone had a teleportation ring at one point, Xim the Despot had a vault (or two) of odd relics, there's a boatload of Sith Alchemical Artifacts, and certain weapons were prototypes and never saw the light of day but are believed to be very, very powerful.

Personally, with games like that, it gets really fun when the party picks up something entirely mundane that they assumed was so dangerous (i.e. I'm looking at 7th Sea, where a Chinese Kite was considered a "relic" to be stored in a safe place).
