My youngest son, now 13, like most kids, has friends over for sleep overs. Shortly after getting my 4th edition, he asked me if I could have a game of Talisman with his friends. As my son loves the game, it was his favorite, and still loves it, but currently likes Defenders of the Realm more (I don't).
One of his friends fell in love with the game, and this week had his parents buy it. They all played it last night as a family, just the base game.
I guess they were hoping for some alternate endings, but told them they come with expansions. They also asked about Quests and responded likewise, though we know the board offers simple quests for Talismans.
So I think they will be getting expansions as well.
And so the fan base grows...
Talisman Fan base expands
Nice to hear!
And the fan base grows....
even if we have to procreate them ourselves! My son, 31, would probably never do this, too much a fan of online/video games.
He plays a game that is pretty big in Japan, but relatively unknown/unfavored in the US, "Monster Hunter".
He was intrigued with the online version of Talisman and it was being offered pretty cheap recently, but since he knows I'm not going to go there, he thought better.
Now my granddaughter, 8.5, may be different. A couple of years ago she and I played a pretty stripped down version.
First of all she was and is still, somewhat in the Princess phase, so she only wants to be the Prophetess, she of the long blond hair and Princess look to my g.d. at least.
But we basically roll the dice and moved around the board. I had to keep it pretty simple but she enjoyed it then. Not as much recently (she likes her my little pony dolls more right now and plays 'games' with them, when she visits us).
Still I think I could get her more involved in the next year.
Great stuff!
Since picking up a copy of 2nd Edition in a charity shop for £15 last december, not only did I rekindle my love for the game, but have also got quite a few other people into the game as well. Firstly my girlfriend has gotten Talisman crazy almost as much as me! (I just wish she wasn't so much of a sore loser LOL) Also my flat mate has become quite the Talisman geek; purchasing 2nd Edition and all except Dragons expansions on Ebay, then the 4th Edition with all expansions and the Digitial Edition too!!! (he is planning on moving to Australia in a couple of years and wants to get some Aussies into it!)
But what I have been really chuffed with was the response from a friend at work, who after I explained the game to her, she and her boyfriend were crazy for a game. They bought 4th Edition and we have had some greta games together...but now she has gotten about 8 of her friends into it and now I am hearing that they are buying copies of the game too!!!
Everybody I know that has played Talisman with me has absolutely loved it, putting down their control pads for an evening of board gaming is not an easy thing for some of them, but I feel that just shows how special a game Talisman is!
I guess I started something, here. So here's another story.
One of my nephews was in Wisconsin late spring/early summer, and he was interested in the games I played. I got my brother-in-law, my nephew, my son, and my other nephew to play, and maybe 1-2 others, to play Talisman. The older nephew fell in love with the game, he is 24. He was jobless, so I hooked him up with the print your own version on Talisman Island based on 2nd edition, tho graphics and other stuff is different. But shortly moved to Texas as he had a job there, and saved some money and he bought the base game (4th edition) about a month ago. He absolutely loves it but can't find any gamers. I told him about this forum, BGG, and some other online places to find gamers. Maybe he will find some gamers.
Always the digital edition on steam, android and iPad!
I think I told him about that.
Here in Quebec its very difficult to expend the fan based of Talisman for some reasons. 2 big enough Boardgames forums but so few that likes this game or just dont know about it. Hard to make a group, saddly.
Its hard here in Sydney too there are lots of players south of Sydney but here up North there isn't many at all
. Travelling 2 hours just to play gets a pain after awhile.
Here for some reasons gamers prefers games like where you play farmers, building power plants, making rail ways...well many games with worker placements, its just weird not much enjoy this very great game that is Talisman with the expansions.

I think Sydney is where my friend will be moving too, So if and when he does I will tell him to get in contact with you
