This is actually the second time that I've done this particular repaint, but I didn't set up the video camera the first time. So I finally decided to correct that.

Awesome! Very nice
Brilliant!
big fan of your work Jay, thank you for the repaint videos, truly inspirational.
Probably the best straight up repaint I've seen. It's really clean- I love it.
Very nice
Thanks, everybody!

Jay - thank you for all your vids on You Tube. I am working hard to improve my meager skills, and works like this inspire me. Thanks!
**** that's nice.
I might have to steal that colour scheme :-P
I really wish we had a sub forum for painting and mods.
Be so much easier than having 1000's of book marked threads
I love your video and am determined to learn how to paint. If I've already started to paint a ship and decided to start over, what would be the best way to "erase" the paint on the model/ship or would you simply just get a base color that will cover it such as black or white?
Also what would be the best air brush set to start with for an amateur that's not going to cost an arm and leg considering there is $300 of X-wing fig's coming up in the next couple of months for me to order?
This is about the best i've done so far with just brushes, hoping I can learn the craft a little better.
In response to the first song on your playlist:

Okay, on the first question. Sometimes it's best to work all the way to the end before deciding to start over. At the halfway point I frequently hate my paint jobs but I manage to correct course enough to be happy at the end. Having said all that, if you are determined to start over it would really depend on the thickness of the paint. If I had painted over the original paint I would be inclined to strip it. If I had stripped it initially and just had my own paint - much of it applied with an airbrush, I might attempt to just paint over it.
For the 2nd question, I have an answer based on a recent experience. While I was at Gencon I got a chance to try out Iwata's Neo airbrush. It's their starter brush and I was really impressed with it even though I had not been inclined to be. You can do a lot with it for the price (you can get it for about $50) and it's an Iwata so it comes backed by the best company in the business (in my opinion having used their airbrushes for 20 years). You can find a cheaper airbrush, but they are usually cheap Chinese knockoffs. I'm hoping to be able to try and review the little Neo compressor as I think it might be a great little portable air-supply for miniature gamers... but I'm not going to recommend it until I get my hands on one.

I do take commissions!
I aspire to get to the level that you're at when it comes to painting miniatures... maybe one day. ![]()

Like anything else it just takes practice. I don't have much in the way of inherent artistic ability. I've always thought of myself as more of a "paint technician". Luckily, there are so many more resources to help you learn than there were when I first got started (which was in the dark ages.. you know, pre-internet).
I like your repaint much better than the original from FFG. The one from FFG is rather drab and I do not care for the shade of brown used. To me, it is the worst ship that FFG puts out.
