Beware re-paints :D

By slim chaney, in X-Wing

I like to repaint my ships. I've got Biggs, Wedge, Kaths Firesprays, Blue Squadron and a load of 181st interceptors. They look great. Everyone loves them.

What's the problem?

I find it impossible to play the ship as anything other than the repaint. I've never used Krassis Trellix, and i wont until I buy another firespray and re-paint it.I now struggle with no-name interceptors. I can't make a two rookie x-wing list as I only own 1 unpainted. I don't think I'd feel like this if all my x-wings looked the same but now its too late.

I'm not even mentioning the fact that I keep the same ships for each of my named tie pilots, that'd be weird.

Just a cautionary tale, paint at your own peril.

I know I'm not alone.........am I ?

I find myself quite amused by your woeful tale. :) I'm sure you are not alone but it is not something I have a problem with. It does however feel very right when I use my re-painted X-wings with their proper pilots (one is painted as Wedge's Red two and the other as Luke's Red five).

*backs away from the crazy people*

The only repaint I'd ever consider is changing one YT-1300 into the Kryat Fang from the Edge of the Empire Beginner Box.

Having 2 identical Firesprays was the only thing that looked weird to me so I had to repaint one of these. Other than that I have resisted the temptation to do any more.

Thats one of the best firespray repaints ive ever seen.

(they tend to look junky and not that interesting)

yours has nice color palette, and an almost subtle way of saying: I'm beautiful

@DB Draft

Sweet repaint:D

It was the Firesprays that started me off. I could only play it as Boba, it seemed "wrong" to let someone else pilot. I know it comes with a Slave 1 upgrade card but look at the paint job......its Slave 1 out of the box. It should come with "downgrade" upgrade card.

Excuse my ignorance - but I always just assumed Slave 1 was in factory standard colors? I never thought of it as being a particularly custom-looking paint job.

I bought another pack of Imperial Aces just because I couldn't bear to use a non-striped Interceptor as a Sabre pilot, nor a non-red one as a Royal Guard. :P

Boba's is custom. Bounty Hunter and Jango Fett's Slave I are more in the factory standard ballpark. DB Draft's looks like one that could be fresh out of the Kuati factories.

I know and have a very similar problem with my ships, it's why I ended up with 6 x-wings

I paint all my small ships to look the same (except for their hull numbers), but I've decided all my large and huge ships are going to get unique paint schemes. Thus far, I have not had any problems using them for any old pilot.

Love the B-Wing Slim... Thinking of doing something similar to mine. You use the Blue Thunder list too? ;)

This is why I never paint any of my minis ...

(It really isn't the complete lack of talent, creativity, etc.) :P

I have painted many of my ships, but none of them in any pattern of existing pilots and such, simply to avoid this problem.

Oh, and an HWK as well

I just recently did this repaint so I had an Imperial version of the Firespray.

It's the only rebel list I play, everything else is imperial :D

In my head every named pilot is another no-name dude with EXACTLY the same skillset as the legend he is disguised as on the table.

It's the only way I can live with myself for repeatedly sending Wedge Antilles to his death at the hands of some PS 1 teenager behind the sticks of a TIE Fighter.

A man after my own heart... At least until Scum&Villainy is released!

Rookie rebel pilot: " **** i was about to go on patrol but there's something wrong with my X-wing."

Wedge: "hey kid! I got stuff to do around the base, so you can take my X-wing!"

Rookie rebel pilot: "wow, you really mean it general Antilles?"

Wedge" yeah, just bring her back in one piece."

And thats how you can have a no name rookie pilot in Red Two.

This makes me want to get a Firespray, paint it grey and paint, "KSEF21" on the side in Aurek-Besh.

I really would love to see a sub forum for repaints. I enjoy looking at how creative you guys can get and it's a shame these topics soon disappear off of the first page of the forum. Having what you guys get up to with a paint brush under one heading would be awesome.

Such as the models in this thread, there really are some works of art posted from the community.

Hi, I try to play only with repainted shipps. I paint the whole Squadron, and the ace of the squad gets a stripe and some more colours in the coloursheme. I do not like to use colourshemes from the original artworks vor the background.

See ya

Dark Curse

the only one I have repainted as the pilot is my Green Awing. I normally just do what I want with them. Granted I have my Blue Sq Bs but I also have like 4 Bwings and the other 2 are in an orange so they can be everyone else.
