I know I'm not the only one around here that can claim this one:
War
Nope, and I hope never to be either.

Here in Australia we don't get earthquakes all that often, but we do have 9 out of the top ten most venomous creatures on the planet and most of those critters live amongst us in suburbia.
Thankfully, none of those venomous critters have crossed the ditch. You're quite welcome to keep them there, mate. ![]()

I hear drop bears are the biggest threat.
Yeah UK gets off lightly we have one week a year where it gets really warm and nine months it's cold and rains.
Drop Bears are only dangerous when they are on fire!
Australia has all sorts of stuff that will kill you.. from big to small.. bah.. Spiders.. snakes.. gators..Crocs bahh.. marsupials.. lol
edit for my oops lol
Edited by onewaySorry mate no gators in Australia, the croc's ate em all
lol.. hey, I had a 50/50 chance.. lol.. I'm from Louisiana.. we got gators.. lol
I stand corrected.. thanks mate
Biggest lizards we've got are Tuataras and they're only about 2 1/2 feet long, and definitely not deadly.
No worries mate. Don't let the name marsupial trick you into thinking its cute and cuddly. Most are nasty little vicious buggers and when cornered will go right through you like a chainsaw. We have possums around us and the buggers piss in the ceiling or nest in the walls right behind your bed and party all night. The best way to keep them out of the ceiling is to throw a couple of Tiger Snakes up there to eat them.................. Only joking.
Did you know that a kangaroos defence is to stand tall and lean back on its tail and then disembowel you with its hind feet. I was on nightshift in Accident and Emergency one night and the Ambulance brought I Pommie tourist in who was pissed and had his guts ripped out because he tried to box with a kangaroo. He stayed in Australia a bit longer than planned and went home to England a bit lighter than when he left there.

California had a 6.1 last night, I've been through a few of those shakes, including the 89 one that did so much damage in San Francisco.. they can be tragic for some, and for others they can be a little entertaining. I've had no personal tragedy due to an earthquake, but know others who have.
I was in service during the first Gulf War, but didn't serve in theatre.. did my part here in the states.. I know many that did go, and not just the first on but the second, and Afghanistan as well. I call all servicemen and women my brothers and sisters..
The California quake made the world news here in New Zealand so it seems it was fairly serious. Hope everyone's OK up that way.
Never experienced an earthquake. But for natural disasters I've been through tornadoes, hurricanes, and a monsoon, almost a tsunami too.
War definitely does not fall into natural disaster category but through gulf war 1 and 2 plus a few small skirmishes around the globe.
Another man made disaster was my first marriage.
I live in Japan and was here for the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami. I live about 600km away in a city called Nagoya. It felt like the ground was swaying. I went to Tokyo 2 days later to see some friends. Smaller tremors every 30 minutes or so. For me (an Australian - we have only ever had one small earthquake that has taken life) this was a very different experience.
I also proposed to my wife on Mount Fuji .. a volcano which is reportedly overdue to pop. You truly cannot get an idea of the magnitude of the forces involved until you are standing on the mountain. You have a realisation .. the amount of force required to move this .. is ridiculous.
For all the destruction that man can cause he still needs to tremble beside the shock and awe that mother nature can produce with little warning.
Here in the upper midwest we just see the occasional tornado, some big thunderstorms, and the occasional blizzard although last summer's heat followed by last winter's freeze was bad. I'd almost swear we went a month without the thermometer getting over 0 F and the lows were a lot worse. I can remember one day when I swear we had an ice quake when the frozen ground outside decided to buckle.
For all the destruction that man can cause he still needs to tremble beside the shock and awe that mother nature can produce with little warning.
Oh, we're catching up--at least in terms of causing earthquakes with little to no warning.
