Do advanced Proton Torpedoes get the extra 1 die for being shot at range 1, even though they can only be used at that range? Seems to me they are pretty powerful as they are, with 5 attack dice...
Advanced Proton Torpedoes Range Question
No.
They are a secondary weapon. Only primary weapons get the Range 1 bonus.
Page 10:
Depending on the range between the ships, the attacker or defender may roll additional dice during this attack (see “Roll Attack Dice” and “Roll Defense Dice” on pages 11–12). Range combat bonuses only occur when a ship is attacking with its primary weapon.
Missed that one... thanks for the clarification :-)
This also applies to defence dice for Range 3. So if you're shooting primary weapons at a VT-49 Decimator at Range 3, they'll get to roll one defence die.

Unless you're using a seconday like Proton Torps or Heavy Laser cannon, in which case the Decimator will not get the +1 die

Which is probably why Parravon specified primary weapons in his post ![]()
Indeed. Our group's first game with the Rebel Transport was the same. The other guys weren't aware that it actually got some defence dice as the range got longer.
