Please explain the swiss points rules for a tournament.

I just finished a tournament that was scored on the swiss system I only had one win which gave me the 5 bonus points however before the finals my margin of victory points were 358. I did have two losses but the player that made the finals had 2 wins but less points in the end. Can some please explain how this works?

Overall points are what matters. The Victory Margin points are more of a tie-breaker option. I ran a tournament last weekend where the top three all finished on equal points, but it was the Victory Margin points that decided it.

That 5 points is your actual points. Your 358 is your tie-breaker.

You get 5 tourney points for a full win, 3 for a mod win (win by less than12) and 1 for a draw. If you have 2 people on the same tournament points, you use their margin of victory to separate them. So for example from the Australian nationals, I had

Round 1 a 100 - 0 win, so I finished with 5 points and 200 tiebreaker)

Round 2 a 100 a 12 win, now 10 points with 388)

Round 3 a 75-71 loss, now 10 points with 484)

Round 4 a 100-0 loss now 10 points with 484)

Round 5 a 100-12 win. Finished with 15 points and 672 tiebreaker points) which put me in 11th as top player on 15 points (3 full wins)
