Sothern Cali Regoinals maybe?

ARMed_PIrate what did FFG say to Matt about having a tournament.

Hi, All. This is Mat, letting you guys know the current situation:

I've sent the email/form off to FFG applying for a Regionals tournament to be held at Gameology. Given the store's new location (two blocks off the I-10, and not far from the 15), size, and rapidly growing playgroup, I think that we're a shoo-in for being allowed to host the tournament. The primary and secondary dates I've asked for are July 18th-19th (at the request of our venue owner), or June 27th-28th (at the request of Archimedes, cause he's awesome and gets nepotistic treatment like that.) I haven't heard anything yet about approval, but these things can take time. I imagine they'll want to call the store to verify things, etc.

The plan is to have Saturday be the main event with a Block 3 tournament: 5 or 6 Swiss rounds, top 8 cut, you all know the drill. Sunday will be either a Teams tournament, or a Legacy tournament. Teams is always popular, but tends to not be as accessible to some players. Anybody can play in Legacy (even though everyone will just get their butts kicked by Nakoruru) and there's been some local talk about eagerness for Legacy play. I'll put Sunday's event to a vote when/if we get a set date for the tournaments, and the results will be posted far enough in advance to give people a chance to plan accordingly. Entry fee will likely be $10, as we have to order prize kits from FFG (they're not just giving them out like STG used to do) in addition to covering the store's expenses. As I don't know what the prize kits are like, I can't speak for the top prized. That said, I will see to it that every attendee walks away with a promo and some league foils, and hopefully a booster or something for their entry fee (I need to talk to the store about the boosters, though.)

Being that ARMed_PIrate is in-house, I wouldn't be surprised if he wanted to run some crazy side-event shenanagins for the Winningly-Challenged players of the evening as we start the Top 8 cut. Details will come as they're hatched; schemes also can take some time.

I'll keep you guys posted with any updates as soon as I know them myself. Here's hoping we can get a rocking SoCal event and bring this area back to life. ^_^

Side events I'd be interested in running:

1) Themed Highlander Legacy Jigs & Reels

2) 6-pack Draft (if we can get the product; last I heard, the distributor was sold out). Full resource rule in effect, because the recent sets are so well put together that it's possible.

If Mat's up for it, and you guys are up for it, I'd also like to talk to the store about upping entry fee to add some extra prizes. Xbox is a possibility. Games and/or gift certificates to Gamestop or Best Buy are another possibility. I'll talk with Mat and the store more about it on Tuesday. But if anyone thinks a $15 entry would be too high, let me know now.

Upping the cost would definately prohibit some people from being able to attend both tournament days- remember, the store is going to have to shell out money for prize kits for each day (FFG says a regionals prize kit is $135 + shipping, and I'm certain that's only for one tournament) in addition to covering costs on taking over the store's playspace for two days. Some of our weekly players have trouble with the $5 tournament fee, so $30 a person could be prohibitively expensive. (And $30 on top of travel/food/lodging expenses for out of town folks could also make issues.)

I'm all for bigger and cooler prizes. I also want to make sure that everybody in the area is able to attend. It's just unfortunate that many CCG players are young and perpetually broke.

Yea, I would prefer if we just had promo's and packs and such random prizes.

Is there an update on if there is even going to happen however? news from FFG? I hate to bug, but my playgroup wants a date so they can put in for days off on those days.

Entrance fee doesn't really matter to me. anywhere from 5-35 as long as the prizes scale accordingly.

Could we try to settle on a date? Need to try to plan travel/days off work, etc. Dont want to miss this like i did the seattle regional due to getting moving too late.

PatchedArtist is waiting to hear back from FFG.

When they give us a date, we'll give it to you. (:

I may just toss $30 of my own money into a gift card or two to be raffled off. (:

Oh god.... Just what I need. You guys are gonna make me spend even more money on a game I've already quit....

Ar?

I wouldn't mind hearing an explanation for that one...

If you guys are going to be having a regionals sometime in the near future then count me in. I will be heading back to cali around the 18th so if its sometime in july then it will be perfect.

Our group is already interested, we just need to know when!

any update on a date? i missed out on pacific NW regionals cause it got too late and couldnt get a flight....lets nail this down so i can get my tickets and build a deck!

Yea...it is getting to the point where my group might not be able to make it if we don't get a date soon.

from what I heard our scout filed all the paperwork close to two weeks ago and is waiting to hear from FFG.... not much he or the store can do til they hear back from "the man" lol

End of another week. Can someone who is involved with the store planning please contact FFG and see if there is an update. If my group is to go to this, we need to know the date ASAP.

Dude. Talk to FFG, not us.

PatchedArtist, our scout, has filled out all the paperwork, and is waiting to hear back from FFG.

He has tried to contact FFG by phone for an update, during daylight hours, and didn't get an answer (i.e., no one picked up the phone). Feel free to send FFG an email stating that you're anxious to hear the results. I would do it myself, but I don't have the appropriate FFG contact info at hand, I don't feel like using these forums' terrible search function to find it, and I hate navigating FFG's site in general.

In any case, it's safe to assume we didn't get a June date. Here's hoping they give us a July date.

Well later is better for me now...i just blew out my knee and can't walk for 2 weeks. Traveling within a month is out of the question...

An update on my group. We will not be able to make it if it is in this month. If we can get a date in July, it is a maybe. Sucks >.<

Any word on updates on this? I'd love to go if at all possible.

Heck, guys. If it goes on too long without a reply from FFG, we may just declare an unofficial regionals, and try to find you guys some nice prize support that isn't the Regionals support. It sounds like there's a lot of folks who are half interested in showing just to play.

Truth!

If this did indeed happen, my play group might not be able to make it until late July early Aug (preferably the later). But I think that the group would be cool with an unoffical. We have loads of fun just driving, so it should still own. besides, it should be the poeple playing that make the trip worth while ^_^

So... any news on this? I have a playgroup that are all itching to go if it is happening.

Where are at the same place we have been for a couple of weeks. Our scout has tired to get in contact with FFG, but still nothing has happen. Our playgroup meets tomorrow. I will fill you guys in on what is happening afterwards.

We've set a date for Saturday, August 1. Unofficial.

To help us figure out what we can get for prize support, please post in the official thread if you think you (and/or others from your playgroup) will attend:
