Sothern Cali Regoinals maybe?

By cronos3, in UFS General Discussion

So, are there any plans in the works for a Regional in the LA or San Diago area? Or, is there a shop down there willing to host a regional there? Just wondering ... mainly becuse I would LOVE to go to another regional and they are always way fun. Anyway, yea ... what's the word people!

u have no idea how bad i want this.... my scout was supposed to try to talk to someone about getting it to Gameologies new store in Montclair. Its big enough and can easily hold thirty people. Ill ahve to talk with him about it the nest time i see him.

ANyone else interested so that we can hopefully meet the 30+ goal FFG wants regionals to make?

If y'all get something going, count me in. I'm very grateful for the LA crew that made it up for the Silicone Cup last month! Will definitely look forward to a road trip!!

I'm down.

Even if we don't get the Regionals hook-up, I think we'd be willing to do a big tourney.

Mat found out that we could get an original SF2 arcade cabinet as a prize for $500, but given even Regional tournouts as of late, I think entry fees would be prohibitively expensive, and we might not get enough players to cover costs.

However, an Xbox 360 and some Points for Live Arcade (for to download SF2:HD Remix and/or Puzzle Fighter 2:HD Remix) would be much cheaper. By my calculations, it would tack an extra $10-$15 to the entry fee. Would it be worth it?

Sound off here if you have suggestions for a great extra prize to draw a crowd, and/or if you have suggestion for the maximum reasonable entry fee for a sizeable tournament.

id be down for the roadtrip...make this happen!

YES! It'd be very worth it! Also, i think little chachkies (sp...i know) like maybe SF memorabilia, action figures, comic books...maybe do like the Silicone Cup and have extra awards for: Deck That Kills the fastest, Lame Duck Deck (last place), Decks that front a SF, SoulCal, ShadowWar, SNK characters but didn't place Top 8...extra stuff like this I found encourages people to play decks that are creative; people play characters and decks they WANT to play, rather than stuff they HAVE to play...

Our group has 6 that do road trips. However, if we can get this planned, I should be able to get two extra people in on this. So there is about 1/3 of the people right there. (you have no clue how happy I am that people actually want this to happen ^_^)

LOL The action figures were awesome prizes. My friend won the T-Hawk for LameDuckDeck. He didn't care, he LOVES T-Hawk so it was all good.

(doing the quoting out of order ... but o well).
Packs a never a bad prizes =P Play mats would also be a nice prize. Yea … not running very high on the thinking power right now…so that is about all I got XD if I think of anything else I will let ya know.

Wow thats some insane ideas from prize support might be a way to get new players if you offer prizes like that as well.

Well, unfortunately, UFS isn't as huge out here on the Left Coast as it is on the East, so some ingenuity is required to grow it. I have this social fantasy of making enough $$ with enough time off to actually take a UFS Season and tour the country, hitting as many majors as i can. It'd be fun. Not at all practical, but man i love this game! gran_risa.gif

This doesn't just go for Cali players. I think this is a useful thing to get a national (international?) perspective on.

What's your ideal prize support for a big tourney?

What do you think is a reasonable entry fee for a big tourney?

Does different prize support affect what you consider a reasonable entry fee? Or do you have a maximum, higher than which you wouldn't pay?

So long as it isn't another 15 hour drive both ways, I'm sure the AZ crew would be down for trucking it back to CA.

Awesome deal. Has NintendoMan, or anyone else, been able to speak with their store and see if they can make this happen?
(also posting so this post doesn't fall into the abyss of nothingness)

Ill be able to talk to him tomorrow at our weekly tourny... sorry been busy with finals...

No worries. Just didn't want this post to die ^_^ Hope your finals went well or are going well.

This would be so awesome because same because I run with the Nitendoman and ARmed_Pirate group. We really could pull this off because the store we have is huge, and he have a decicated scoutt to make this work.

late june...gogogogo

I agree...hey man, wanna carpool and have a road trip if this is the case?? gran_risa.gif

I'm definately down for this. I was recently accepted as a scout but i'm still waiting for registration for the store i play at.

if things work out, and if you guys are willing to come to san diego, let me know! but first things first, gotta get the store registered.

i wouldn't mind making a trip to LA or something like that. i might know 1 or 2 people who would join as well.

At work right now...nothing to really do (blasted servers here keep canceling my searchs >.<)

So yea, I would not mind a late June trip. I am sure I could get 8 of us there. But there be a teams, we would be one man short of 3 teams from here. I need to find someone else here to join us..but that means two cars...or a bus =P But yea, over all, we have gotten like 5 new players in our area. It is really awesome. Our tournys went from maybe 6 players to 11-12 players each week. Makes for some fun games ^_^.

Anyway, back to the topic, I really want another regional >.< They are just too fun not to have another one. =P

(Also ... is anyone else loving the new Linkin Park song ?? I know I am XD)

Late June would be perfect for me. That's when I haves summer vacation for a week.

At any rate, Mat (PatchedArtist, the scout) will be calling FFG tomorrow. He's already gotten the tentative OK from the store. (:

Oh god, Late June might be bad for me.

It all depends.

Well ... make it un-bad, because you are required by California law to attend the regionals. Look it up =P

Ok, so long as it isn't June 9th to 16th I'm good to go.

The weekend of June 27 being the last weekend in June would be the best idea for me. But if it goes into July...then the last week in that month >.<
